Hello All,

Are we aware of any USB devices or hacks that allow your infotainment to have extended features? One that I can think of would be screensharing (IOS iPhone) to the infotainment center for watching movies or playing a game as if it was an iPad. This could be through bluetooth or a direct ubs connection.

Of course, this is all when the car is parked however it would be nice to have movie playing for passengers during a road trip while the drivers keeps the eye on the road and listens.

Also, what about hacks that unlock new capabilities?

(Disclaimer) Any device playing video in view of the driver is illegal in most states, Illinois is one.

There is no way to hack the Sync to do what you’re wanting. You’ll need an external device such as an Ottocast or similar device.

Most people use a MagicBox or similar devices. They are relatively cheap and easy to install. Not sure how good they actually are in terms of ease of use or lag.

I use a Naviks HDMI interface in my truck. However, they are pricey and the installation is invasive. You will need to partially take apart the dash to access the APIM. The Naviks module will completely hijack the APIM's signal to the touchscreen when it use. Meaning, if you put it in reverse, you won't see your cameras and you can't see anything other than what you are mirroring from your phone or tablet. You have to press and hold the back button on the steering wheel to go from the Naviks module to Sync and back to Naviks. Not sure which of the products below will work for what you want to accomplish, but if you call them and and tell what you want to do, they will tell you which product works best. In my case, I had to go with the $550 HDMI interface module to accomplish what I wanted to do which was intergrate a wireless camera that I put behind my trailer while towing. Being able to mirror my phone was a just a bonus.

Oh that's perfect! I've been using Naviks products for year on my vehicles. They make good stuff.
I have too! Started with my 2014 Escape and every vehicle since.

Thanks, this is good to know since I'm in Illinois, the land of no fun and high taxes!

Wow, this is cool and exactly what I was looking for but I may not have the expertise to install this myself. Did you have someone put this in for you or did you self install? Were there instructions your follows to open up the infotainment module?

Thank you! I see this unit is only for the F150 trucks, do they have a module for the mache E?
That is the one. I’ve used that in three Mach-E’s. Not sure why they don’t list it for Mach-E on their website.

This is what my invoices read:

Quantity: 1
Item: 2021 - 2024 Mustang Mach-E (SYNC 4) 15.5" Screen - Nav In Motion
Lockout Bypass + CarPlay In Motion Bypass Lockpick (NK-1324-2)

You do need to fill out a form with your VIN and answer some questions so they know exactly the car you have to program the module they send you.

It was a humongous pain in the center of my ass. The install involved multiple calls to Naviks to get it to work. Eventually, I gave up and drove my truck with the dash taken apart to my audio/video installer to get it done.

However, my case was different. What complicated my install was the wireless camera. Since I was using two different inputs to the module (my phone and the camera) I had to run a switch from the module to my center console so I could switch from one input to the other depending on what I wanted to see on my factory screen. Otherwise, I think it would have been easy (or easier), but still not easy. I had to take apart my dash to get to what I needed.

@markboris The one you posted is a video in-motion lock out device.....you can mirror your phone to the Sync screen with that?

Don’t know. Never tried.
Ah.....I don't think you can do what the OP wants to do with what you have.

@SaintKevin I would contact Naviks customer support to see what is the best option to accomplish what you want. Or just get a MagicBox or similar and see if you're happy with that.
