Hi all
So i have my mach e for a week and i just started my first charge at home.
3 phase so guess L2.
After 5 minutes the sound that was initially like a loud fridge now sounds like a air compressor. I mean extremely loud. All the time for 2 hours now and it's just 16 degrees Celsius, 60 F outside.
The front doorlike things are open so must be for cooling.
But with a sound like this I really get angry neighbors. Insane!
Anyone else having this?

Here is it:

I've experienced it too and can only assume it's due to the car needing to cool the batteries when charging. I don't hear it all the time though.

I have written this before. When I charge my car with the Ford charge station at 48 Amos it makes noise. But when I turn it down to 30 amps there is no noise.
How do you turn down a Ford Connected L2 charger?

Go to the Ford pass app. Go to your “charge station” open that and go to settings. You will see a slider that lets you adjust the out put of the charger.

I charge my Mach e using a 40amp Grizzl e charger, with hardly any noise at all. All I hear is a slight hum, hardly noticeable. I would suggest having the dealer look at it.
This wont work here in Europe. Most customers in europe using 16 amps/3 phase homechargers have this issue. If you would have read this thread you'd know. Dealers in europe dont know how to fix and Ford HQ has acknowledged the AC to DC converter cooler getting too hot. They are working on a fix. So dont waste your time going to a dealer. You might want to call if they have received official instructions, else they will start fiddling on your car without having a proper solution

Found it. However, currently my charge station will not communicate with my WiFi. Level 2 support said because it shows a solid blue light after it is unplugged and replugged it is connected but fails to communicate. They said it is a known charger bug and will let me know when it’s fixed. As for the lower setting, since it’s my charger is in my garage I can take all night plus some more time to charge and not have the lawnmower noise at the lower kWh. Thanks for the info. I’ll check with the manufacturer to see if there’s any news on a fix. Anyone else having the communication issue?

The slider only controls maximum charge %, not charging output. Are you sure?

The slider on my app under Settings shows a range between 6A and 48A. I slide it to 30 A unless in a need to charge quicker. You are looking at the slider under the manage EV tab. To get to the settings for your ford charging station you click on the three dots (...) at the bottom right of the screen and then select "Your Charge Station". Select settings in that screen and you will see the slider to control the output of your charge station.

ohh so you are using a Ford charging station, I use a EVSE chargepoint home flex, maybe that's why it shows differently

You can change the breaker amperage in the ChargePoint app to lower the current on your CPHF.

One of the reasons I purchased the Ford charging Station is that I thought I would have more control over the charging process. Perhaps I made the correct decision.

Question, I have the breaker amp set, is there a way to change the max output on the chargepoint? I want it to charge the fastest possible on a 50a breaker which should be 40a output, but i cant find how to accomplish this, or even check if it is automatically setting the amps to 40 output

AFAIK it will charge at 80% of the breaker rating automatically. So if you tell it you have a 50A breaker you will get 40A output.

Just got an official update from Ford Haarlem in the Netherlands:

At Ford we are working hard for a solution regarding fan noise.

There will probably be more clarity about this at the end of August, beginning of September.

I would like to request that you also report this problem to the customer relations department via 070-7703 777 or e-mail [email protected], until then, if desired, a temporary solution might be possible.

So glad I stumbled upon this thread. This happened to me the first night I charged at L1 with the included EVSE--exactly the same noise. Was wondering why it sounded like a lawnmower in my driveway. I charged it 5 1/2 hours--and the fan/compressor ran the whole time. It was nighttime, high 70s, humid as heck. Didn't get too much of a charge during that time, about 6% or 12 miles, according to the app--really low. That was like my old Volt on the 8A trickle charge setting.

I've been using my "complimentary" kWh from Ford at local DC charging stations so I haven't needed to charge at home since then. I'll report back when I give it another try. Will also tell my dealer.
are you sure the compressor was running or was it just the cooling fan making the noise? I wouldn't expect the battery chiller to be needed for L1 charging
