Hello, I have been having an issue with my lift gate operating intermittently. I know that others have had issues, but I have not seen any definitive causes. I tried the Valle mode activation and release which had no affect. I removed the negative battery terminal and left it off for probably 15 minutes before reconnecting, that should have been plenty of time for a proper power drain for the modules to reset. Since none of these suggestions appeared to work I did some investigation. While activating the liftgate latch while using a screwdriver as the latch post I found that if I hold tension on the latch when I activate the release button to release it the latch it will not release, if I remove the tension then the latch will release. Next I tried releasing the liftgate while it was latched and it did not release. I then pushed down on the hatch to assist in removing preload from the latch and it would then release. , I would like to know if there is anything I can do to adjust these components to remove latch tension. I did notice there is a nylon band that runs between the latch assembly and the liftgate frame, in theory removing this would lower the latch assembly and essentially remove some of the preload.

I have seen during other post regarding this issue a ford rep appears to offer assistance. I would like to get this issue resolved as it is very frustrating not being able to reliably get the lift gate open.

To relive latch tension you can bend the two rubber bushings on either side of the striker wider apart, or take a wood block and pound on the striker to move it further aft.

There should be some tension otherwise the liftgate will rattle going over bumps.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll start with the rubber blocks. I hear what you are saying about not having enough tension, seems to be a fine line between too much and not enough. At least now I can reliably get my liftgate to open by pushing down on it a little bit. I had tried pulling up on it when I hit that button bit didn't realize that was actually making it worse.

I am having similar issues but it's very inconsistent and driving me a little batty. For about a week now my 2021 will give me a notification on startup that liftgate is ajar. I can open and close the liftgate from inside the car using the icon on the large screen without issues. Using the button on the bottom of the liftgate, hands-free kick and fob button work inconsistently, but usually works if it's been a few hours since I last opened the liftgate, but not if I just opened and shut it 15-30 minutes earlier. Very annoying when I've already gotten out of the car, trying to open the liftgate to get my backpack out. Tried the valet mode and sync resets with no improvement. I suppose I'll have to remember to open the liftgate when I'm inside the car before I get out now.
