We ate $2k ADM, $1k shipping, and a $200 day trip to southern IL, in order to secure our SR Select AWD Mach-e with the comfort/tech package after putting in an order for an ER Premium AWD in mid-October because we needed the tax credit for this year, wanted the car ASAP, and was offered 0.9% for 48 months. YMMV, of course.

Absolutely no regrets since we love love love this car, and if our special order ever gets built and delivered, lol, we may take that one, too.
Congrats on the new car.

FYI Tropical Ford in Orlando have been selling Selects for $3.5K over MSRP for months now. If these were "ER Premium AWD" models I'd say yes but Selects are available in the northeast at MSRP.

i would also consider the POTENTIAL changes in the federal tax credit. There are income limitations in the new bill. If those are applicable to you, then you will lose the ability to have the $7500 tax credit for the Mach E. The new tax credit is included in the Build Back Better bill, which has passed the House and now is for consideration by the Senate. If those limitations are applicable to you, then paying the $2k ADM now to get the tax credit probably makes sense. . I have no crystal ball on timing on if/when it ultimately gets passed, but it should be a definite consideration if the income limits apply to you.

if you are unfamiliar with what the POTENTIAL changes to the EV tax credit are, i would suggest going to youtube and watching the Bearded Tesla Guy videos on it. His latest videos on the prospective legislation are very good.

Also - Keep in mind the "effective date" of being able to use the the tax credit is when you actually BUY your vehicle, ie after its actually delivered to your dealer. Given the lead time on at 11/8 order, there is plenty of time for the new EV tax legislation to change.

My comments are only applicable if you fall into the category of potentially being excluded from the EV tax credit due to income. If you dont, then disregard - just wanted to flag it as something you should consider.

On another note, I believe there is some debate out there whether the Mach E would be a "sedan" or an "SUV" for purposes of the NEW tax credit. Right now the MACH E is classified as a "small station wagon" by the EPA.

https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=43602

"Small station Wagons" may be Sedans as opposed to SUVs. This is important b/c the limitation in the NEW tax credit for sedans is $55k MSRP, versus $80k for SUVs. This classification could change, but if you have a MME trim that is above $55k then you may also lose the ability for the tax credit, if the new law passes. Im sure Ford is pushing to change this - @Ford Motor Company , get the EPA to change this!!. It makes no sense the Model Y is a "small SUV" but the Mach E is not. So this risk is out there also, which could also justify paying an ADM now to lock in treatment under the current EV credit laws.

I put down a deposit on a 2021 and will be in the DMG club in the near future. It's a 2 hour drive which isn't too bad. I had to pay $2,000 ADM, but we couldn't find one in stock for less than $2,000 ADM.

Another dealer had $2,000 ADM, but they had a mandatory $1,199 protection package. They wouldn't back off on that because they had others in line to buy it. And it was a 4+ hour drive.

Another dealer wouldn't charge ADM on a Red Select, but he had no idea on its whereabouts and had no timetable on when it would arrive.

Yeah, I would’ve jumped at an ER premium AWD model at $3.5k ADM in-state, but RWD selects, without the C&T package, are all Tropical and other FL dealers had on their lots. Believe me I called almost every ford dealer in Florida and a ton across the country. The VT and MA dealers who were willing to sell at MSRP back in Oct also had bare-bones RWD selects, same with a few other dealers in the Midwest, but AWD was a minimum requirement for us. Would’ve preferred the ER battery but plenty of chargers here in South Florida for our needs right now.

"Small station Wagons" may be Sedans as opposed to SUVs.

Can someone explain to me why a wagon is considered more of a Sedan vs. an SUV?

I would think the hatchback nature of the trunk of a "wagon" makes it more like an SUV to begin with vs. a Sedan.

Maybe we can all be lucky and the BBB can honestly just fail (at least pertaining to EVs). Manchin has to live with what he chooses and going with it might not help his re-election chances in 2024.

Selects have always seemed more common to me for whatever reason. I see 5 Premiums and 35 Selects close to me. The Select + Tech is also missing a few other things not really obvious (someone can post the list) like more sound deadening windows and some other tidbits.

Pricing wise, Select with Tech is sorta priced almost as much as a Premium anyways (why I chose Premium).

Not sure of your rush, but maybe you can sell the Select when your original order comes in.

Because a wagon used to be based on a sedan (add a back to it).

And an SUV used to be based on a truck (add a back to it).

The waters have been muddied with crossovers.

I’ve ordered a ā€˜22 Premium AWD ER. The order is dated 11/8. I found the same car with a $2000 ADM in a ā€˜21 in stock. I am able to take full advantage of the $7500 tax credit. Do you think I would be able to sell/trade to update to my ā€˜22 without losing money on the deal? Likely to have less than 5k miles at that point. Get out your crystal balls, people!
Yes.

You really think so?

As someone said in another thread:

This is the first time in the history of the automobile that new cars appreciated after driving them off the lot.

I’m betting this is a temporary thing.

The car is for my father who is 83 so time matters more than money for him, he needed the tax credit for this tax year, and he wanted a first-year model because he’s still a kid at heart who gets excited to have a new toy before everyone else does. So, yeah, that’s why the rush ?

Then throw savings to the wind with this info. Not like we can take it with any of us eventually. I've met multi millionaires who penny pinch and are miserly up the wazoo (and are not happy they have to so there is a difference between not wasting, but complaining you don't want to spend and miss out when you clearly will not have an issue affording it and living forever on your assets).

Not sure the point when you get to a certain age and you have more than enough to be generous so pretty much, do whatever he wants...like you say, time is of the essence!

Agreed. Supply chain woes can only last for so long...There's a gap and it's going to get filled...probably so fast we end up with whiplash at the end of all this and end up with an excess.
