Start shopping.
Fiancée is scarred and doesn't want an EV now. She stated that the state trooper made fun of the Mach E, saying it was NOT an SUV. Haha...well, we might shop around for a Jeep GC 4xe since the leasing deals look really good, especially with the tax credit built in.

Was the accident somehow related to it being an EV?

That sounds very professional of a State Trooper to make fun of a victim of a car accident in the snow by making fun of their car.

Yes and no. One can argue that having a Mach E GT is probably not a good idea in the snow. However, given that it is an extremely heavy and quick to accerlate/fast vehicle, made it more difficult to control in the snow, but that's with any fast vehicle. EVs are generally much heavier than their similar ICE.

I know my fiancee does not drive fast (she's the one who always tells me to slow down) when I drive the Mach E, it kind of makes me wonder since of the high torque/high hp as well as the heft of the vehicle that may have contributed to it.

Either way, we're looking into something that is better for the snow for her, so now considering the Jeep GC 4xe.

I'll file a complaint against the trooper.

Hopefully you meant she is scared, not scarred.

Had you replaced the GT's tires with non-summer tires? I hope so. Because if they were the summer tires, they are not to be driven below 45 degrees. They are very slick in the winter, and very dangerous.

Yeah, that GT is gone for real. Sad as hell, glad your gf is okay. Battery might be able to be salvaged, but hard to tell without a cell test.
Yes very glad your lady is okay. Scary stuff. I was wondering about the battery integrity as well. Kinds of looks like the pack might have avoided damage as it sits sort of behind the front wheels. Emphasis on might.

The car came with all season-extremecontact DWS's as it was the regular Mach E GT, not GTPE. Nope, she's scarred. Apparently the tow truck driver told her that he doesn't trust electric vehicles because he had someone burn inside one because they couldn't get out.

When Is A Car Totaled? - Kane & Silverman P.C. Injury Law Firm (palegaladvice.com)
In Pennsylvania, the total loss formula compares the resale value of the car before the crash to the cost of repairs plus the scrap value of the vehicle. If the cost of repairs plus the scrap value is more than the resale value, the vehicle is totaled. Additionally, if repairs to the vehicle compromise safety your insurance company might total the vehicle.

Kelly Blue Book puts your Retail Value at about $59.000. Guessing repairs will run around $50,000 and Scrap Value maybe $10,000. This would amount to a 100% Loss.

Hey guys, my fiancee took the 2021 Mach E GT and was coming home from work in a middle of a snowstorm. She lost control of the car and she hit a utility pole, snapping the pole in half. Airbags deployed. She is fine but has some bruising. She's lucky and the Mach E did a good job protecting her.

What do you guys think? Totaled or no? Insurance Adjuster said it would need to be 80% of the ACV before they consider it totaled. The car only had 9k miles before the accident. What are your thoughts on estimated damages?

Sucks since I only had this vehicle for less than a year.

Happy to hear your girlfriend is OK. Even if not totalled do you really want to repair, hope the wait for a new one is not too long

I'd file a complaint against the tow driver too.

Let's stop with this nonsense, it was the TIRES not the vehicle type. Mach-E is great in the snow with proper tires. The stock all-season tires suck in snow and is the likely reason she crashed assuming she is a component enough driver. If you put the same Continental tires on a Jeep the outcome would have likely been the same all else being equal.

So sorry that this happened to your fiancée. ☹🐩

The GT is AWD, which makes it safer than any 2WD, so I would discount the comments by the uninformed officer and the tow driver. 😕🐩

Either way, it's multiple factors, EV or not. The Mach E GT does accelerate pretty quickly with just a light foot tap. I've driven with those exact same tires in more snow while living in Boston in my G37x and never had an issue like that.

Could be tires, could be EV, could be driver competence, but it makes me wonder if she had a slower car like the Rav4, if this would even happen.

Also, my MDX kills the Mach E in the snow, with all season bridgestones. I know this because I own both and have driven both in snow. It also doesn't accelerate as fast as the Mach E. Acura's sh-awd system is superior to the Mach E AWD, IMO.

Wow, I can't believe both the trooper and tow driver would make those kind of comments in a situation like that. I don't care what kind of car or what kind of driver is involved. That is just totally off base. What happened to a little common curtesy these days?

I would start the shopping process now, especially if this is the only weekend you have to do so. If you find something you like I would try to explain the situation to the dealer and ask if they can hold the car for a few days for confirmation of the total. I just think that the likelihood of a total is so high there would be little reason not to look now given your time constraints.
