The 2024 GT does have the same battery as earlier models, but it has a different rear motor, slightly more robust wiring and cooling, but most importantly it has sensors throughout the entire electrical system to monitor heat. The new rear motor is the in-house developed motor used in the F 150 that is more powerful and more efficient than the earlier motor. These upgrades yield a longer range (280 compared to 260 miles), a 20% quicker fast charge from 10% to 80% and remove the 5 second limit.
For racing enthusiasts, the 2024 GTPE performs significantly better than the 2023 as demonstrated in this post:

P.S. The reason I looked into the differences is because my old 2022 Mach-E GTPE was totaled about 5 weeks ago and last week I got a 2024 GTPE to replace it. We were not injured in the crash because the car absorbed the energy of the collision. For day-to-day driving I don't notice a difference, but on a freeway entrance ramp near my house, I could get up to 80 mph if I floored the old car, while the new car can get up to 90.
So I should have waited and gone with the we then... Noted! ? Should have done my research but still unfortunate that Ford didn't disclose this to me ??

Well aware of the 2024 differences.

And none of them would make me agree with the statement I was responding to: “Sounds like a good way to cook your batteries, motors, or wiring.”

The 2021-2023 could handle power for longer than they gave us. 2024 would still be a little faster due to the extra tq. I just don’t want it to fall on its face at 72mph anymore.

Congrats on the new car though!

I am fine with the 5 second limit... I just want the jail bars gone above 72 mph. I don't plan on bringing my car to the track.

Those are kinda the same thing.

When you floor it from a stop, you hit about 72 mph after 5 seconds.

The “5 sec limit” was always a confusing description. It makes people think you get 5 sec of full power at any time.

You only get 5 sec if you’re near full charge, it’s warm outside and your battery isn’t hot or cold and you floor it from a stop.

If you floor it above 72 mph for example, you get zero seconds.

I've read the 5 sec thread... nobody really knows exactly what it means. I do know that the jail bars start at 72 mph and get worse the faster you go. Even if you get to that speed "gently". (And they come on for other reasons mentioned above) That can be annoying when trying to pass someone. I would just want to get rid of the speed restrictions. I'm fine with other reasons to protect the components.

Just from test and error we know that there are many things that restrict power.

Speed is just one of them.

I do agree, it would be nice if that one went away and we got about 5 sec of full power if you floor it from a roll.

I tested the “speed limit” on a tall bridge. Put it neutral at 65 mph and coasted past 72….. and the grey bars still showed up! It’s so arbitrary.

FWIW I have gone up to 75 mph with no grey bars, but that was only above 95% charge. Below 95% it was 72 again.

So I recall an interview about the 2024 models where a Ford rep mentioned that because they didn't have the hardware to properly monitor motor and battery conditions, they were overly conservative and treated all heavy use scenarios as worst case scenarios (hence the jail bars). So assuming that the vehicle was under maximum load at extreme temperatures at all times. But with the 2024+ models, they had better monitoring hardware and were able to ease up their limitation model to better reflect actual usage.

My takeaway from that was we would need to upgrade that monitoring harness in addition to any potential software upgrade. My own personal hope is that someone would sell that harness as a kit to be adapted to older models.

I watch a lot of car youtube and I can't find the video where this was said atm, probably TFLEV or Out Of Spec Reviews, but If I find it I'll post it.
