I use PAAK only and I’ve been having the same issue for the past week (after 9 months of operating this way with no issue. My rear hatch will stop closing, car will honk twice, and I look in the window to see this message. It’s getting annoying.

I would never rely on using phone as a key. The phone has to update and the MME has to update. There is a chance they won't connect.
Try the fob. If it works, then no problem. If it doesn't put a battery in it.
I don’t disagree with this principle, but the keypad code and backup password to start is enough of a backup for me.

A couple of weeks since last contact. And I've never replaced them, but I'd think that if I wasn't using them (I've got 2) they wouldn't deplete for a much longer period of time.
It is possible that at the factory ford used a bunch of older batteries just to get rid of them. I would just replace the fob battery and then see how long it takes to get that same message….

I’ve actually had the fob get pretty warm when it was in my pocket and the car is in the garage which is a wall away, so it can use significant energy if it’s within reach of the car all the time

When I park in my garage, I always leave the fob in my car. I’ve never in my life had to replace a battery in a fob.

I’m sure they eventually need to be replaced. I just don’t think proximity to the car has any bearing on it.

I had to replace the fob batteries at about the 6 month mark. They’ve been fine since. ?‍♂
Did you have to do anything after replacing the battery in the fob to get the car to start?

After replacing my battery key fob it will not allow me to start the car.

You shouldn’t have to. I leave the batteries out of my keys and pop one in when I need a key (like to take the car in for service). I just put the phone in airplane mode and use the key to start the car as a test, then go on my merry. ??

Incidentally, both of my original batteries went dead over the summer (I don’t store the keys with batteries in them). My F150 Lightning key’s battery is the only one still kicking. A 2-pack of batteries solved the issue for my two original keys. ??

No. Something is amiss with that.

I just put the new batteries in and they worked fine. :(

Btw, I’m at 3 years with the new batteries without those going dead … yet.
