I just did an EV consumer product eval and got a sneak peak on what I think is the Kia EV5 sedan that Kia is working on. About 20 of us showed up in a closed off hangar to evaluate 4 EVs the new EV, Model 3, polestar 2, and the Volt. The EV5 is a big sedan almost the size of a crossover, and I thought it was a Cadillac lyriq at first. It has a similar front end and headlights to the Lyriq. They got rid of the ugly rear design of the EV6 fortunately. The rear is similar to polestar. Interior is similar to EV6. RWD has 320 mile range priced at 41000. I though the Kia EV5 was the best in terms of design, performance and price. I'm glad the Koreans are serious about the EV future and are doing a lot of R&D to put out great cars. The EV5 will be out in 2-3 years. With or without the tax rebate we will see a lot of it on the road if they can produce enough.

They didn’t make you sign an NDA?

2-3 years? By that time we'll all be driving hover craft ?

We’re you aloud to drive it?
It sounds like you were.
If so, it’s further along in development than a release in 2-3 years.
If it was driveable with a finished interior, it’s maybe a year away.
They may build and export it here from South Korea, initially, and then build it at a U.S. domestic plant in 2-3 years.

The naming seems weird.

Hyundai starts with the Ioniq 5 and the sedan is the Ioniq 6. So the sedan’s number is on digit higher.

Kia starts with the EV6 and the sedan will be the EV5? ….one digit lower?

If they are to be believed, at $41,000, it would be cheaper, so maybe that’s the reason for the lower number.

I don’t know the Ioniq 6 price point. Is it higher or lower than the Ioniq 5?

Exciting! Is it like a Ford Evos (lifted sedan) but an EV?
