You don't like ADMs, so you cancelled your order and put a reservation down on a vehicle that just went through a 20% markup? Based on backorders and history, Rivian is likely to increase your price again, too.
So you canceled a Lightning yet put a deposit down on a Rivian that just did the same exact thing you're complaining about?
Actually, Rivian didn’t do that - they kept the price I was estimated. And the big difference with Rivian is that when I placed my reservation, it specifically said the price was not guaranteed. When they upped the price, I wasn’t lied to and it wasn’t some ADM. When they decided to allow me to still purchase at my estimated price, I was personally quite happy, but Rivian was very clear that I was not guaranteed a price for a car that probably wasn’t getting delivered until 2023 at the latest.

Ford, on the other hand, allows dealers to tell customers that their orders are not valid at the contractual price they agreed upon (see some of the price protection threads). I’m not taking about the cases where people had a non-binding order submitted online and accepted by a dealer, but ones where a legally-binding PO was signed. The remedy for a buyer is to suddenly pay $2k more or not buy the car. I know most dealers have found ways to ensure people get a refund check 30-45 days later, but some have played hardball. Because the dealers are Ford’s customers, us retail buyers have little power. Oh, and let’s also be real about how Ford allowed dealers to accept orders and buyers thought that they were ordering at the price they were quoted by ford when they put their deposit down. When that dealer adds an ADM because they didn’t have a signed purchase order, we blame it solely on the buyer even though a reasonable person would have no reason to expect the dealer to change the price at delivery. Yes, I know it’s legal because there was no signed contract for those folks who didn’t immediately follow up with a PO with the dealer that accepted the order. It’s still morally wrong and just plain messed up. This happened with Raptors, Broncos, and others, not just the MME. It’s totally acceptable operating practice for Ford.

So no, I did not place a reservation for a company who does that.

Oh, I understand why they did it. From a business point of view, it's a lot easier and cost effective to put the chips in the cars that are on the line, opened up, than to have to hunt through a parking lot, open it up and finish it. You only have to move one car the way they are doing it. It's just getting old wondering if it will be this week. Or this year. In the meantime, I am really enjoying the Kia. When I'm honest about the kind of driving I actually do now, this is a great choice. The people that are getting their MMEs are no doubt thrilled, and had I been one of them, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
I completely agree with what you said.
My wife really wanted the mach-E Premium, but all the ones on the dealer lots had $10,000 ADM on them. We like it, but we don't think a Mach-E premium is worth $65,000.

We test drove the EV6 GT-Line and we were perfectly fine with it. would we have preferred the MME? after being in my '19GT PP, we may prefer the MME's handling and ride over the EV6, but she's going from MDX to an EV6, so I don't think she will care.

Back in 2017, I ordered an '18 Mustang Ecoboost 6MT and it took almost a whole year before the car arrived. my lease on '15 had run out and I actually ended up renting a car for two weeks, and other times having my wife drop me off at my work. when the car came in, they put it at the front of the dealer for few days. I went in to pick up the car, but the dealer was no longer interested in honoring my X-plan prcing.

when I complained, the salesperson tells me that they have had a lot of interest in the car, and if I don't take the car, they can just sell it to the next person who shows interest. While I was talking to him, I can see the car and yes, people were walking up to it and looking at it (it was the new blue color that year, and the new refresh look).

Anyway, I left, and ended up doing a lease on a '17 EB that sat in someone's lot for a while. I vowed to never order a car through Ford again.

When the least on my '17 expired, I looked everywhere for a new b8GT 6MT to purchase, but no dealers would sell it to me below MSRP (this was just before COVID-19). I got desperate and started to look at pre-owned vehicles and it turned out, a Chevy deler that was 5 hours away was the only one that wasn't willing to call a ridiculous pricing.

In sum, every single time i tried to deal with Ford, I have been left pretty disgusted.

You are lucky to have EV6s with low/no markups in your area. Florida Kia dealers have the highest markups of all the brands so they basically made me stick to my GTPE.

This is a Wind AWD at $54K with $20K markup.
