Well, this is *very* true for most vehicles BUT the Mach-E requires you remove the entire frunk tub first, so it is considerably more involved with time and effort THAN a typical battery swap, which even people working at the local car parts store will offer to do for you.

Check out this video:

The frunk tub is 8 machine screws and 2 sheetmetal screws, plus two electrical connections. Total R&R time less than 15 minutes. It’s not all that much crazier than any other car to replace the 12V. ?‍♂?

Your "liaison" is most likely a customer service rep and not someone who would have any real knowledge of these things. The dealer is just assuming it is an issue that requires an EV tech. Sucks, but it is the nature of the beast with these things. I work at a JLR dealer now, and whenever an I-Pace comes in for anything, it's the same thing. We only have two EV certified techs and they are the only ones that can touch it.
And one of ‘em is always out sick or on vacation …

I certainly believe once you've done it a few times it becomes no big deal.

YET it is noticable that the experienced mechanic, who owns a Mach-E, with all the optimal tools on hand, did take over 45 minutes in a YouTube video that was edited down to be as short as possible. :) Good video with multiple angles too IMO.

Seems considerably more involved than that of a traditional very accessible 12V battery. And the dude at the auto parts store would not likely be ready to do that for you. Ha!

I remember that in 2022, Ford put in a patent showing a drawing of an easily accessible design for accessing the 12V battery on the next generation Mach-E.

I had something crazier. I had a Saturn Sky that required a fender panel to be removed, and the battery to be removed from the side.

The frunk tub does not have to be removed to replace the battery. I had mine done from a Ford dealership's mobile service and the tech just slid out the battery without removing the frunk tub. I also saw instructions from Ford somewhere on this forum that showed the same. I think it was one of those TSBs or the like intended for dealers.

Questions - I have seen 2 ways to remove the 12V battery.

One way is to remove the tub and the other way is to remove a strut tower crossbar. Is there a way to swap the battery without removing either the tub or the crossbar? If there is, where can I find this procedure?

AND - when the crossbar is removed, is a torque wrench of Locktite required to replace it?

See how easy it is? Yet, you still paid someone else to do it - me too!

Has anyone tried to use an off the shelve battery?
There are still no aftermarket batteries available as a direct replacement for the MME. The only off the shelf battery will be a Motorcraft battery. These do not have to be purchased from Ford. For instance, rockauto.com has the MME OEM 12V battery listed. ??

The strut tower support is 2 bolts. Locktite is not needed. Not sure what the torque should be on the bolts, but I think they’re M6, so around 35 lbs/ft sounds right. ??

Anybody got a link to a pdf or movie that shows the simple "slide out" version of 12V battery replacement? This sounds great!

Thanks for the Rock auto recommendation.
