I purchased an AWD, Premium EXT in early 2021 and researched whether I could use Tesla chargers. There was some guy on YT who previously had posted good articles who showed how to do this with an adapter. I bought a Lectron off Amazon and then discovered online that there was no way to have the Tesla chargers recognize the Mach-e. What?? How did this guy do it? Mystery.

Anyway I’ve had this thing sitting around for more than 3 years and I’m about to see if it works. Hopefully that early version is operational as I’m going on a 1000 mile road trip and it would provide a lot more options for a more efficient charging schedule. I did sign up for the free Ford adapter which I reckon is a winter arrival.

I’m going to guess that you have a ā€˜Tesla Tap,’ which is what I purchased in 2021. Works great on L2 chargers (think hotels here). It is NOT made for SC charging. For that you’ll need either the Tesla one from Ford, A2Z Typhoon, or a new Lectron one made for fast charging.

Lectron also makes (made?) an L2 adapter similar to the TeslaTap. I think that’s what he’s got.

Oh yeah - that makes sense. Wish I’d known that - could have used that many times.

You are likely confusing an AC adapter with a DC adapter. The older Tesla Destination adapters are for AC (L2) chargers. They only work with Tesla Destination, Home, and Mobile chargers, which are L2 units. ??

If you need to use a SuperCharger, you need a DC adapter. These are only available commercially from A2Z EV and Lectron. Ford is sending one to each VIN for the Mach-E, so you can register to get a free one if your VIN hasn’t already had one apportioned to it. The caveat there is Ford is getting them from Tesla and the wait is horrendous. If you need one soon, order one from A2Z or Lectron. Do a search on them and you can find reviews. ??

Correct. I have a 65A (I think) Lectron L2 adapter that I use with my Tesla Mobile Charger. ??

Thanks guys. I rarely use superchargers so not having an adapter isn’t a problem. Lived without it for 3 years, can wait for the free version from Ford/Tesla. Meanwhile good to know I can use my L2 for hotels, shopping centers and similar locations. On a road trip with few superchargers access to one of those could provide an emergency option.
