I went to leave Wednesday (9/3/25) morning to find the frunk and liftgate had seemingly opened themselves overnight night. Of course the liftgate opened into the garage door and has a scar now. 😢 I have a 2023, so no automatic liftgate. I use PAAK, and I usually close the app after parking. I went to bed shortly after closing the garage door, so I just can’t think what would have happened.

Any ideas?

23 select awd early build here. Happened to me several times last summer. Has not occurred since. No ideal why.

My 2025 AWD Premium MME also opened its trunk on its own In our garage. It does have an automatic liftgate. It also has a scratch. it was less than a month old.

Thanks Misterrobot, glad it’s working as expected so far! I saw a couple other threads, but doesn’t seem to be much recently on the topic. I’ll expect based on your response Ford nor dealer did anything specific to remedy. I’m so worried it’s going to happen again 😔

By automatic so you mean foot activated? I wish I had it up until now 😆

Unfortunately, the 2025 doesn’t have the for activation. It has a motor that lifts it when I push a button.

I have a 2023 GTPE and had my rear hatch open a few times for no apparent reason. After some testing, I believe it was due to how the fob works. The button has a "2x" on it, which I interpreted as a double-click, much like a mouse on a computer. Double-clicks on computer mice have very specific parameters to trigger a double-click: the two clicks have to occur within a certain time frame, and have maximum button hold time limits. In other words, clicking and holding the mouse button for a while, then releasing and clicking again does not constitute a double click. Neither does clicking and holding for a while, then releasing and clicking and holding for a while again.

On the fob, however, I found that if I held the button for a while, then released it and immediately clicked and held it again, the hatch opened.

How does this tie into ghost openings? I had a small penlight on the fob ring. While in my pocket, I believe the button got pressed and held down, then released and pressed again when I moved, triggering the hatch. It happened while I was in a fast food restaurant and I saw the hatch open.

I took the light off of my fob and it hasn't happened since.

This may not apply to your situation, but I figured it is useful info to get out there.

I've heard about these events and I make sure to pull into my garage far enough away from the door so the MME rear door couldn't make contact. My garage door is 8' tall so there are no issues there. It's been over 2 years and nothing has happened.
