We finally had a chance to take our CA Rt 1 out for a day trip. We drove out to Ojai here in Southern California for the day, about 200 miles round trip.

A few thoughts:
  • The car drove really well. Great acceleration, smooth, quiet on the freeway. None of that was a surprise since we’ve had it for about a month, but nonetheless.
  • Adaptive cruise control and lane centering worked well and made the drive a bit more relaxing. One thing to note though is while in traffic, if someone cut in front of me and accelerated toward the next car (to then move into another lane while cutting through traffic - this is CA, so terrible drivers are plentiful), adaptive cruise control would think traffic had sped up, and would then speed up, too. I had to take control so I didn’t accelerate toward the next car ahead.
  • Efficiency. Most of the drive was freeway, with a bit of mountain driving mixed in. Freeway had a fair bit of traffic. We drove with traffic (meaning up to 77 or so). Weather was ideal - mid 60s to high 70s, but we ran AC the entire time. We averaged 4.1 mi/kWh over 200 miles, which is much more than I expected. Just fantastic efficiency.
None of this is new information, but wanted to share our experience so far. This car has been fantastic.

Nice photo, too. Silver is a great choice for California Route 1.

I just drove with my mom down from Orange to San Diego and back for Mother's Day. Was going to stop at Hotel Del and see the sights, but it was so packed around there and no parking. Drive down was smooth, ICC/ACC was great, except when it would spot a speed limit sign for something other than the freeway. Really nice noticing a slow down and seeing 20MPH as the limit that it got from an exit ramp. Completely forgot to reset the the trip 1 or trip 2 settings, so no info for the drive down.

Coming back, 103.9 miles at 3.5 mi/kWh, but because of SoCal traffic, it was stop and go, maybe a max 45 MPH about half the trip north. As I got near Camp Pendleton, the system kept telling me to repeat my command, the one I didn't give. Hit cancel on the screen, immediately came back, hit cancel again. Happened about a dozen times.

Then as I neared the El Toro Y, Sirius went away. But AM/FM worked. Tried to go back to Sirius, nothing. Even the display wouldn't switch. Then nothing seems to work on the display and the map tab went away and I got a message saying it couldn't read the speed limit signs and the estimated distance home never changed on the console display. Like the whole thing locked up or something.

Got everything settled back home and looked up how to do the SYNC reset and went back out to the car, still no navigation tab or display. Did the reset (right seek, volume down). Screen went black then came back, still no navigation tab.

Anyone else ever see this?

Are you saying that the nav selection is missing from the shortcut list just above the HVAC controls, or the app list when you click on your profile? If the former, that happens if you swipe down from the shortcut.

Missing from the shortcut list above the controls. Usually it shows 4 of these, with the other being on the main screen, radio/trip/AirPlay/Bluetooth/Nav. Now the Nav is missing from the list and it's only showing 3 of the others..

OK, so you either accidentally swiped down on the NAV icon to close it (in which case you can relaunch it from the full app list), or it is #4 in the list of shortcuts so just swipe left in the shortcut area.

I tried swiping the row at the bottom, nothing. I'll try again this morning to see what's going on. The part that worried me was the message saying it couldn't read speed limit signs anymore and that the route it showed on the console display next to the range and speed never changed after all this happened. That's why I think something locked up / crashed.

OK, went back out. Tapped my picture top and center (I'd been tapping the car icon, upper left, to bring up settings) and re-added the navigation shortcut. While trying to get it working while driving, it was slow to react to my taps and I probably did a swipe that made it go away. Still wondering if that would make the route stop updating time and distance to home.

Cleaned up the trends I'd never been to while I was there.

Closing the app like that stopped it (just like closing an app on android), but when it closed it didn't purge the driving directions on the instrument cluster. A minor bug, but I can see where it would get confusing and concerning.
