Excellent information. As an additional comfort level. Only once during almost three years of ownership and charging at dozens of DCFCs, did the charger connection not disconnect when using an EA charger. I did not know the information in this thread. Instead I called the 800 number. A pleasant representative reset the charger, which then released. Took a total of 10 minutes. Frustrating when this happened but just follow the information provided and/or contact the charger company.

Looks like this is part of 10.2.0 OTA as well.
it does not appear that either of my Mach-E’s have received the 10.2 software update and I’m now wondering if I can get Ford to push the updates. Update: after texting with Ford EV Advisor I understand that a push is not possible.

My wife's 2021 Mach-e after 4 years and 73,000 mi has only been charged DC three times and each time there's been an issue.
I mention it to our daughter who was visiting because I wanted to take the car tomorrow but would have to charge at a remote chargepoint station in the eastern part of our County and I didn't want to get stuck with a charging issue again.
So our daughter who has a lot of experience with her husband's Tesla and her Rivian took my wife to the local chargepoint DC charger tonight to walk her through the process. The session started and ended fine but then the cable wouldn't release. She even took a screenshot of her phone to show me it worked but then the DC cable unlock button on the car did not function as expected it turned red when she pushed the button even though the doors were unlocked.
However the unlock soft button on the vehicle controls screen finally released the cable lock.
After reading this entire discussion thread our daughter suggested to check with our Ford dealer to see if there's possibly some issue with our Mach-e.
Tomorrow I'll be driving my Maverick instead.

The physical unlock button and the unlock soft button on the touchscreen have the same endpoint and perform the same function. If the one on the touchscreen works but not the one in the charge port, my possible explanations are
  1. The doors were not actually unlocked until the time the soft button was pressed
  2. Phone as a key (or a fob) was not working or within range of antennas outside the vehicle when the exterior unlock button was pressed (but worked later)
  3. Enough time elapsed that the error condition cleared itself
  4. The vehicle was switched on or off and that reset something
  5. There is a problem with the physical charge button or wiring that caused it not to function
I would personally want to try the DC charging again to see if the behavior is repeatable (physical button doesn't work, but soft button immediately works).

I will add the soft button to the guide as an option, although think there was some other factor that made it work besides just the soft button.
