From an engineering point of view I really like lots of products that I haven't/wouldn't consider acquiring.

Both Rivian and Tesla are 2 perfect examples. I don't dislike the offerings, but they don't inspire me.

Well that's not completely true, because the Cybetruck certainly looks like a hoot even with its warts. Fortunately its a poor enough value equation that I can't fork over for one anyway.

I like the R1S but let’s see if Rivian makes it out of their financial mess this year before I seriously look at them. Rivian is actually exceeding production expectations unlike Fisker. Give Rivian another year and I think they will be a much more serious competitor especially with the R2 lineup coming.

According to Kyle’s (out of spec) R2 review, Rivian says the R2 will have a rear wiper (somehow) and they may change the location of the charge port location though doubtful it’ll be in the front.

I agree about lack of CarPlay, but the other concerns mentioned don’t really bother me.

Rivian's infotainment OS better be good if it is not having ACP or AA! The ioniq5 was horrendous using native OS.
I prefer the charge port at the rear especially now that pretty much all major EV makers are kneeling at the altar of Tesla's NACS. It's also aesthetically more pleasing. How hard is it to back in especially with all the driver assist and cameras.
Agree on the no rear wiper. Has Rivian not learned from Hyundai's snafu on the ioniq5?

Unfortunately the charge port is still on the wrong side for Tesla stations. I think people are hopeful they’ll switch it to the other side.
