Today I received an invite to SMUD's Managed EV Charging Pilot. In exchange for giving SMUD (my electric utility) some control of when my Mach E charges, I receive a one time $150 incentive and then $20/quarter thereafter. You can always override their charge schedule.
The pilot is scheduled to run through Dec 2024. Anyone else getting this with other utilities? I do not have a smart EVSE, I use a ClipperCreek. This practice is becoming pretty common with the smart thermostats, glad to see them branching out to EVs too. I am already enrolled in a similar program where my utility can adjust my thermostat set point during "peak events."

What is charging schedule optimization?
Ford receives an hourly forecast of the availability of renewable energy and/or the cost of energy from SMUD. Using that information and your departure time, Ford calculates a schedule that is then automatically pushed to your vehicle. This schedule will start and stop charging your vehicle to meet your required departure time while taking advantage of renewable energy and grid efficiency.
Why does my vehicle start and stop charging when on a schedule?
The schedule that optimizes charging to meet your required departure time while taking advantage of renewable and low-cost energy was pushed to your vehicle automatically. This schedule may include times that your vehicle should pause charging and then restart charging depending on the schedule and preferred times to charge. Your departure time is the most important factor in deciding your charging schedule. If your vehicle requires all the available time to charge, it may not pause charging to ensure you have the state of charge you want when it’s your departure time.
What if I unexpectedly need to use my vehicle when a smart charge schedule is in effect?
If you need to use your vehicle, you can always unplug it and drive without having an impact on your participation in the pilot program. If you need to charge now in order to leave sooner than expected you can override the schedule by texting OVERRIDE to 75604.
