Yesterday, I was able to stop by the dealer after work and sit with the tech who failed to fix it inside the car and point out the problem to him. Turns out, when they had it, he spent hours reloading software modules on the car and then got the car connected to the dealership's wifi and thought that fixed it, which is why they gave it back to me last week. He seemed pretty unaware of the difference between a wifi connection and a cellular connection.

Boy, that was a frustrating moment aftzer two weeks with the modem not working.

When I explained that to the service staff, they immediately produced a loaner for me. Previously they told me they were scheduled out weeks before a loaner would be available, but I think they prioritized my issue after understanding my frustration and how hard it was for me to give up the car for a whole weekday when I need it to get to work.

Hopefully they'll call me later today and tell me they fixed it for real this time!

Just updating this thread. The dealership had the car for two more days at the end of last week, and finally decided that the problem was the thing I had been saying from the beginning, which is that the modem is dead. Unfortunately, that part is back ordered, so after another week of waiting, the update today is that the part is still back ordered with no projected date for when the car will be fixed. I’ve been driving it because all the non-connected aspects of the car work just fine. Still a huge bummer for a car that’s practically brand new not to be fully functional for weeks.

Final update here for folks who find the thread who have a similar situation. The part came in and I left the car with the dealer while we were away on vacation for a few days. When I picked up yesterday, everything was working perfectly again. I had to delete/re-add/reset a few things to get phone-as-a-key, charging schedules, etc. working again, but the car seems to be behaving like it did when it was new in terms of all that stuff.

I very much enjoyed manually warming the car up from the app this morning before I went out in the 26F weather!

One tip for folks who go through this: I called the Ford Connected help center and got them to agree to extend my BlueCruise and Ford Connectvity Package "trials" that came with the car purchase.

The car was not functioning properly for 60 days, and they say they'll give me a 52-day extension based on the last time the car connected to Ford services to the day I picked it up fully repaired from the dealer. The dealer got the car to "ping" the Ford server while trying to repair it the first time, so they counted that as the last time the car was working, rather than the actual day it broke. But it was still worth the call, so if you're in the same situation, be sure to reach out and try to get sometime similar.
