So I just purchased a 2025 MME Premium. I got the home charger and setup an install with Qmerit . The installers came out to do a survey before quoting. I have already ran a wire and installed a 14-50 plug in my garage and have been using the Ford mobile charger. The installer wants to use the existing wire in the garage instead of putting it on the side of the house. Which is fine. Then I get the quote. They wanted $200 for permitting. The issue is there is no permit requirements where I live. None for the State, None for the county, and I live outside any city. I asked Qmerit for a detailed breakdown of the quote but they would not give it to me. So I explained the whole job is going to take less than 2 hours and there is no equipment/wiring cost and no permitting requirements so how much are they charging you? After I called them the next day they revised the quote to $0. At this point I am wondering is this the contractor that did that or Qmerit. Did any of you have a similar experience. I also wonder how many people paid this cost when it was not needed?

I went through Qmerit for my hardwire install and I have permitting in my city (they have to get there pocket full). They are coming out this coming Monday for the inspection. Worked from day of install. Nothing but good experience. Prob paid a few hundred more than if I called multiple places but I have a 2 year warranty on install and it was all done with the backing of the install company and Qmerit.

It was probably the local subcontractor. Qmerit just assigns the job and takes a cut of the Ford money. The local guy was just trying to get a little extra. I’m glad you called them on it.

QMerit is a contracting agent that merely connects the EV purchaser to a contractor near you that meets their qualifications. My experience with them left me with high blood pressure. It was possibly the worst customer service I’ve seen in my life and zero attempts to rectify it.

The first contractor they sent my way , in so many words, said I was not a planet loving patriot if I charged my car from the grid, I needed to purchase their solar panels system to really make an impact. I almost lost my marbles on this cat. I reached out to QMerit and the second company was emailed to me a week later and they called to tell me they didn’t service my area bc it was 350 miles away.

I wrote letters to Ford and QMerit and did my fullest to get a resolution but wound up just paying an electrician out of pocket and was told by Ford they didn’t reimburse, it was my choice to seek outside services. 😡

I basically have blocked that whole event from my brain in order to let go of the annoyance.

Beware of unscrupulous Qmerit installers that will charge you excessive amounts for permit fees or for extra wire that’s already included. Seems like in most cases the actual permit costs are much less than they’re charging, or nonexistent.

They are just trying to add fees to make as much money off you as possible. Do your research before approving a quote.

QMerit sent a local electrical contractor who took one look at my breaker panel and said he couldn't touch it; it was an unsupported, out-of-business brand known to cause fires. He ended up doing two panels for me; one for my house and one for a rental since it had the same brand panel. The new panel, 400 amps, required a major excavation and new cable pulls. He charged me the same for both panels even though the one for the house was much more involved. He let me pay for materials with my credit card so I could get my (cash) rewards, and with no markup. Absolutely one of the best contractors I've ever dealt with (I did have to pay for permits, from the county, but he did all the dealings with the local utility).

I'm one of the lucky ones. Qmerit assigned me to an outstanding contractor--Hilscher Clarke Electric of Canton, OH--to do my job. Decently difficult, in 1931 house having to pull about 65 feet of new wiring. Nice new Emporía charger. Total cost $0.

Why not have them pull a new circuit for you? If using the existing line, just do it yourself and don't bother with the contractor.
I was going to do just that if they did not drop the quote to $0. At this point I wish I would of took the rebate and just did it myself, but it is what it is at this point.

Wow--how did you get an Emporia charger? QMerit only offered us either if the two Ford chargers. Now considering selling it and paying all over to install an Emporia charger for its superior software. The Ford Pro Charger is buggy and too often show a charge fault if you plug in outside the selected window rather than waiting for the next window to charge. Also like the charge onsolar feature offered by the Emporia Pro.

Our QMerit was difficult because we are in a rural area and they had trouble finding an electrical contractor, going through two before settling on the third. We did have to pay the local permitting fee.

Ashamed to admit, but I didn't know enough about chargers to even ask--that's just what they sent me! The Emporía software is very good, as you note. I like being able to track exactly how much we spend on in-home charging, but I'm sure there are many other features I have yet to discover.
