So you’re saying my 2022 Mach E GT with only the 3.5.3 version is going to cost me to get it updated? I just got this a couple weeks ago and have noticed it’s not up to date at all. And it won’t allow me to update on wifi

The Sync4 Software update tool is very misleading. And connecting to Wi-Fi doesn't qualify or disqualify whether your car is eligible to receive an update.
In fact, just because there are multiple updates available for your VIN, it doesn't mean using Sync4 to "check for updates" is a valid method for determining if there are updates available.
FDRS is the best method to determine if there are updates that your VIN is eligible for.
PTS is a close second, as a method to check.

There is a thread for having your VIN checked for updates available. And it's almost assured that there are many for your VIN. But pressing "check for updates" does almost nothing to retrieve any of them. It's so misleading.

Hey Machdigger,

I also bought a 2022 GT in September and haven’t received and power up updates. I’m on 3.5.3.
Keep me posted if/when you get updates and I’ll do the same!!

Cheers!

I bought a used 2021 MME AWD First Edition and took into a nearby Ford service Center for a Check brake system popping up that they're still trying to fix.

I was told I needed updates...cost is just over 500 bucks (Canadian) for them to do it.

You don’t “need” updates.

The service center just sees that you have “updates available.”

If your car drives fine and you don’t care whether or not you have the latest widget or game on your screen, you don’t need to do anything.

There are updates “available” for pretty much any car that doesn’t force them themselves. Just wait for an OTA or only go to the dealer if something is broken that an update can fix.

The service center said I needed the updates.

Hopefully the Ford engineer they called in can fix the Check Brake system error that keeps popping up. They replaced the Brake booster and the error still shows up.

It's been at the Ford service center for two weeks so far.

If you bought one of these cars out of warranty, you may want to explore the idea of buying a Mongoose and the tools needed to do these things yourself. It will pay itself off sooner than later.

Got a link to send me where I can get this Mongoose?

Thanks

Thank you I’ll have a look into that thread! The FDRS programming and hardware is so expensive and tbh, a bit daunting from the procedure I read on here.
Do I risk bricking my car or let the dealership rake me over the coals.

You can have someone here pull your VIN to see what updates are available and if any are related to your brake system.

My guess is that the service center just sees available updates, knows you’re out of warranty and will install them for a price hoping that’ll fix your issue.

I see dealer service centers tell people they “need” stuff they don’t need all the time. From brakes to tires to windshield wipers.

My general rule is never go to the dealer for anything except warranty service. Unfortunately I don’t think we have any other options at this point.

Can an independent shop even work on our cars yet?

Yeah you betcha. Like to me, from what I’ve read, it almost sounds like if you didn’t get early updates when they came out then you won’t be able to get any until you manually update it.

I hope that’s not the case. I’ll give it a few months to see what happens and if nothing I’ll grab a Mongoose for myself for Christmas!

Just like with Tesla, I think that whoever works on my MACH E use be trained and certified by Ford to work on my vehicle.

If a non-certified person would work on my vehicle, it might void my after market warranty or it might void the warranty on any parts that ford installed like the brake booster they just installed.
