Better not happen with mine, I'll drive it right through the dealership, then call a lawyer
In the long run (and in most cases), having an Extended Warranty will cost more than not to have one. Companies sell Extended Warranties on the odds that they will come ahead in the end (just like Insurance Companies).

I have owned nearly 100 cars in my lifetime and I own a business that depends on cars (driving school) and I have never needed an extended warranty. All of my repairs that were "defective" were covered in the manufacturers warranty. All other repairs that were made after the warranty would not have been covered having an extended warranty.

If I were to add up all of the money that I have saved by not taking the extended warranties, I am guessing that I could purchase a few new cars outright and still be ahead.

Now that doesn't mean that you won't ever use an extended warranty but the odds are clearly against you if you keep purchasing them.

I usually say that if you can't afford the repair you most likely couldn't afford the car. I am old school on this but to each their own.

I've had enough of @Ford Motor Company. They turned me into a bitter mme owner that once was overjoyed, loved his mme, loved talking about it to everyone, and was onboard from the minute I saw the announcement. Now I can't wait to sell it and it's all thanks to @Ford Motor Company. They're just not ready to enter this market. They generated a lot of hype by using buzzwords and "investing" in all these ev things and then they backed out and went back on everything they used to get the hype.
Fair enough, you're not alone. The grass is often greener, though. I don't frequent a lot of other forums, but I'll wager you will find the same things happening with many/most of the other manufacturers. Best of luck.

I got them to lower the price considerably, my biggest beef is how are you supposed to know to go to the dealer to update something if you aren’t notified. If I had known I would have brought it in. Horrible customer experience on Fords part.

I think it's fair to say these situations are uncharted waters and, before piling onto Ford, I'd like to see how they get resolved. Relatively few Mach-E's are off warranty at this point and the OTA process is obviously a recent development. IMHO, it's pretty obvious to a neutral observer that charging owners for this stuff is not fair, and it's hard to believe this will withstand market pressure.
While I agree with what you said any Mach-E delivered up until 11/2021 is now out of the 3 year warranty and I'd be willing to bet a majority of them have more than 36,000 miles as well. Lots of variables here too... what if the module that needs updating is part of the EV drivetrain? Shouldn't that update be covered under the 8/100 warranty?

My bet is this will boil down to a dealership that doesn't want to do the updates... covered by Ford or not.

Most extended warranties cover parts & labor. Updating modules is entirely labor and no parts. That's my guess as to how they can charge for the module updates. In any event, check the TSB as suggested, and if it applies get it done. As stated above, you don't need all your modules updated simply because something has changed. Find another dealer and focus on the issue, not on padding the dealership's pockets.

I doubt this is really just module updates. Mine had a hard camera fault, so they replaced the cable per the TSB and it is still broken. The dealer says it needs a new module and that is on order. I do have an extended warranty to cover it. My camera just quit working back in mid September and my last software update was in June.

I am the same way. I have never purchased an extended warranty as typically I don't keep them that long. Since I am now older (60's) I realize that I will probably now keep my vehicle longer, that along with it being electric and 0% financing is why I got it. But I do expect coverage of "Bumper-to-Bumper" as advertised. Let's just hope if is never needed.

My 2021 MachE has error message collision not available and front camera fault. I took to dealer and was told I need 20 hours of updates that I cannot do myself OTA @199. an hour. I have never been contacted or knew about these updates. All my updates have been completed fine OTA Has anyone else had this happen?
I had the same error messages. My Ford dealer fixed it with a cable replacement. Have a new Ford dealer do the following TSB. Ford TSB 23-2137

I know I am in the minority but if your car is broken then Ford should fix it. If it works and you just want the latest updates then that is on you.

NO fucking way is someone standing in front of that system while its updating. Tell them you want to see a video of someone actively working on those updates for 20 hours.

Have surpassed over 100 software updates at my convenience. (3 vehicles) In fact it feels rewarding at times. Similar to washing/waxing, or changing the oil, or......

Have no intention of involving a dealership in anything that I could address myself. They just don't do customer service anymore.

While some anger at this situation seems justified, make sure you’re mad at the right people.

Ford built the car.

But the Ford dealerships and service centers are entirely different companies/owners.

With the dealership model, Ford corporate only has minimal influence.

But either way for the OP, 20 hours of updates isn’t the solution to fix his problem.

This is just dealer service centers trying to get creative to generate revenue. OP doesn’t need all those updates nor should he or she pay for them.
