Hello all,

I just wanted to start a thread to say this is my first EV. And, I'm never going back to an ICE, at least not for my personal, main daily driver.

Any one else feel the same way?
We will all feel that way when gas hits $10.00 per gallon.

For my next vehicle, I intend to go nuclear.
My son lives in the Cleveland area, his ETron power comes from the local Nuclear Power Plant.

As true auto-everything-related enthusiasts we can not say no to ICE or EV. While I do like our Mach-E it was my wife who wanted to have one. It was at that time her enthusiasm for everything-auto-related cemented her as being a true car aficionado by wanting to go with a EV.

Her bucket list still has the Porsche 911 and she wants that for her next car. And I've been waiting for the new Ranger Raptor to be released here in the USA. The Ranger Raptor may be my new daily driver but that's a decision I will make next year.

I do like my Fusion Plug-in Hybrid though so I may continue to use that. Recently we used my Fusion for a 800+ mile round trip to Las Vegas to see a show and have dinner with my brother. Because of the limited time we had it was just easier to take the Fusion. If we had more travel time we would have used the Mach-E.

Several concept vehicles from the 50s and 60s... Not likely to ever happen (short of a military vehicle) due to the weight needed to safely contain the radiation from a crash. The concept cars would not be practical, at least not to the point of being safe...

Which one is replacing the highlander? I am waiting for a 6/7 seater EV (non X)and hope someone brings one soon to the market.
We have the same need to replace our Explorer, but I don’t see anything on the near horizon. Currently looking at the Volvo XC 90 plug-in hybrid as a compromise. For local use (<30 miles) we could do everything on all-electric.

I'm *almost* in the "I'll never buy another ICE car" camp. We have two cars and I'm definitely solid into the "I will always have at least one BEV" camp. But the second car might be a hybrid (and I'd REALLY like a plug-in hybrid so that all the around-town driving is all electric.)

This will change as charging infrastructure improves. We have done a couple of road-trips where we had to take less-than-optimal routing to make sure we could have chargers along the way and at the right distances.

Most recently I had to go from Detroit to Fort Wayne Indiana and back ... and Fort Wayne is a charging ghost-town. It really surprises me that a town that big has so little (there's a Jaguar dealer and a Harley Davison dealer that have slow DC chargers ... and noting else). On that trip, we had to navigate south to Toledo, get on the Ohio Turnpike west and there's a service plaza not too far from the Indiana state line. We had to charge there (and 2 of 4 EA stations were down) with enough charge to drive all the way to Fort Wayne with enough capacity to *also* make it all the way BACK to that same spot to charge again for the rest of the trip home. This is not how I would have routed had I used an ICE car.

I've left comments to Electrify America that they have gaps on both I-75 and I-69 where there are no DC Fast Chargers for stretches that are about 200 miles long. This because in both places where they SHOULD have located chargers that could be accessed by both North/South and East/West travelers ... they chose to INSTEAD put chargers in service-plaza's along the Ohio Turnpike that are only accessible to East/West travels and no near enough to the North/South freeways to be of any use. (When they eyeball their coverage map, they probably think they have coverage because they have dots on the map ... not realizing that those dots can't be accessed.)

For now .... I'd rather have a plug-in hybrid for trips like that. But once they fill the gaps, I'd have no problem going all EV.

The R1S… which is on reservation. But it’s still two years out at this point. So I’ll be waiting to replace the highlander for a while; ?

We replaced the Ford Expedition with the MME, which was originally going to be my daily driver, while my wife continues to drive her MB GL550 until her Taycan CT arrives. However, once she drove the MME, she loved the instant response of the electric motor and unfortunately I was left with the GL550. We also sold our i8 recently, which was pointless to keep. The only other ICE car we have left is the 650s, which will hopefully be replaced by F8 (16 months and counting).

I think a lot of the non-motorcycle riding world would prefer if all motorcycles were electric. ICE-cycles make way to much unnecessary noise.
I despise the noise of many ICE-cycles. I've got mine as muffled as possible.
I have to constantly debate people who truly believe the foolishness of "loud pipes save lives" even when they admit that they don't notice loud motorcycles until the bike has passed them on the street or highway.

No. They're still too expensive for a hobby (a couple road trips a year and a few local rides a month). The expansion of EVs in general is promising new bikes, though, so in a few years I think I'll be ready and able to dump the last of my dead dino-juicers. :)

My Mustang is about 80% nuclear.
It's powered by our solar panels for most driving.

One advantage of BEVs is their electric power, in most states, comes from a state regulated monopoly versus the unregulated Big Oil monopoly/oligopoly selling gasoline. Big Oil companies, which intent on "maximizing their profits", routinely raises their prices anytime there is a hint of international crisis. As we see today with the Big Oil companies increasing their prices for gasoline due to the supply chain issues and the war in Ukraine. Neither of which should matter that much since the widespread use of fracking was to have made the USA energy independent of foreign imports.

Personally I think I would be fine all EVs, but wife has range anxiety for long trips, so we will likely have a EV and replace the pure ICE with a plug in hybrid.
Same situation in my house

I will never go back to ICE on my personal vehicle. I've fallen in love with this car, the instant power, the silence, the smooth transition of power. I'm immensely excited to see how the tech evolves and how much better they become in the future, be it battery management, range or handling characteristics. My next vehicle will absolutely be another EV, without a doubt.

My wife was pretty skeptical of me buying an EV, but mainly because she's an accountant and couldn't see the appeal of dropping 70k on a vehicle when my previous vehicle was only 32k. She didn't see the "cost savings" because honestly, at that price difference, there isn't one. But in the months since I took ownership, she went from a skeptic to talking to me about maybe her next vehicle will be electric. She enjoys my car almost as much as I do and she's never even driven it yet. (She doesn't want to for fear of damaging it and unleashing my wrath).
So much is the same for me. My wife was pretty against dropping 60k for our Mach E almost a year ago. She gave in after we test drove it and then took our pre order. Year later she is now trying to figure out how we can make sure her next car is an EV. not that we drive her ICE much now any how but she complains every time she has to slum it and drive it becaus god forbid I have to go into the office that one or 2 days a months :)

My wife’s and I sure as hell are thinking that we will go EV only if we can. Our main car will be EV only from now on and at least my wife ICE when it is replaced in 2025ish will be at least a PHEV. Our limiting factor is infrastructure and we need some in west Texas as we do expect to drive out there at least a few times a year but that is years away and we might just go to F it and fly from now on there and just rent a car.
The extra savings are nice but also it is how quiet the Mach E is and being able to charge at home is so nice. Mix that with the raw get up and go of the Mach E is amazing. We both have talked about when we do have to drive her Santa Fe sport how it just does not have much get up and go plus we don’t like the shifts in the transmission any more. Mind you that cars transmission is smooth and has some get up and go. It is just the Mach E is that much better. The turbo lag is now much more noticeable when compare to the Mach E.

The solution for that problem I believe is to go on a long trip in your Mach E that requires multiple DC Fast charging and is a fair distance away from your home. I still have some range anxiety but long trips has help reduces it and the first major one my wife and I are doing is at the end of the month where we are driving to Oklahoma City from Austin. That is going to be multiple DC fast charges to get there. Plus we do not expect to be able to charge at the hotels so going to go round trip from the home on DC only. I think that will great reduce our fear plus we know we can do it.

the other trips have been to like Houston and back and a few to south side of San Antonio so we pushed the range and did charge a little but this one will be the big one.
Your solution made it worse for me. She didn't like having to stop to charge 5 times for the trip. In our MKZ hybrid we only have to make one or two stops.
