For people who need a car to get from point a to point b, EVs are still waaaaaay too expensive to be mainstream.
It's because the cheap EVs are not that good to replace an ICE. Slow charging, crappy interior. I've had a Leaf since 2019 because it works for me. I commute about 25,000 miles a year. My state has a $2500 rebate almost every year and with the tax credit, it makes sense to trade up every one or two years. The Leaf had adaptive cruise control and lane centering and 360 degree camera in the mid trim so I chose it over a Bolt.

Hello all,

I just wanted to start a thread to say this is my first EV. And, I'm never going back to an ICE, at least not for my personal, main daily driver.

Any one else feel the same way?
Absolutely.

I do not have mine yet so I can’t say. I will say that I will most likely purchase another ICE in the future. At least until I go thru a few winters here in Alaska and see how they deal with -20 to -40 temps for several days or weeks in a row, unplowed roads and roads that a fairly rough from being covered with ice for 4 - 6 months. If I lived most places in the lower 48 I may feel like you but for now my plans are drive the Mach as much as possible/practical ( hard to haul 5 grandkids in a Mach) and use my Expedition any time needed. I have no problem with ICE vehicles; however, they will be phased out over time and I am fine with that too.

Felt that way since I bought my 2012 Leaf in 2013. Completely agree.

2012 Leaf - selling soon
2021 MachE SR RWD
2022 Volvo C40 - on order

can’t wait to get rid of our highlander for those big family trips -two kids/two dog
Which one is replacing the highlander? I am waiting for a 6/7 seater EV (non X)and hope someone brings one soon to the market.

Just worked out the math(s). Since September 2021 I've spent £62.80 on electricity for my Mach-E. If I'd used my Mazda CX-5 (Diesel) it would have cost £904.00 on fuel. I've been kind to the Mazda and assumed £1.50 per litre on average. Now approaching £1.80 per litre.
 Never ,ever going back to ICE. Now on 4,400 miles.

Likewise, I will NEVER go back to an ICE car. Had my MME since May 2021, have done 6800 (ish) miles.
According to trip No. 2, which has been recording since day 1 I have been averaging 3.5 miles/kwh. 98% of charging in that time has been done at home @ 13.5p/kwh gives me a rough spend of £262. My old KUGA (Escape for our US friends) averaged 38mpg which equates to £1220 (using £1.50 p/ltr). No brainer really. Wifes' Fiesta is out of contract in November 2022 so will be looking for a BEV for her as well.

Personally I think I would be fine all EVs, but wife has range anxiety for long trips, so we will likely have a EV and replace the pure ICE with a plug in hybrid.

I have just a little too much work-related need for a pickup truck that can tow up to about 7,000 pounds a few hundred miles into the back country. So, sadly, I am not ready to move to an electric pickup. Also, none of the truck manufacturers are willing to let me order one at this time.

As soon as I can get a pickup truck that can tow what I need for more than about 400 miles, I'll be all electric.

Well, except my motorcycles, but I would love to be done with ICE entirely.
I think a lot of the non-motorcycle riding world would prefer if all motorcycles were electric. ICE-cycles make way to much unnecessary noise.

While it is absolutely true that BEV's aren't quite at the point where they are appropriate for everyone, for those that can afford them and can live within the public charging/range restrictions they are just better cars to drive.

I will not go back to an ICE. Over the weekend I drove the wife's Durango for roughly the 3rd time in a year to pick up some lumber. It was awful to drive, and it cost me $67 to fill the tank for her. That same $67 would last over 2000 miles in my Mach E.

Personally I think I would be fine all EVs, but wife has range anxiety for long trips, so we will likely have a EV and replace the pure ICE with a plug in hybrid.
Unfortunately my wife has the same concerns. She doesn't want a BEV because they are too expensive and/or she has FUD, and now she's concerned about getting a PHEV because she's afraid they'll lose value more than a regular ICE  .

ICE-cycles
That is awesome - I'm going to steal that

My wife’s and I sure as hell are thinking that we will go EV only if we can. Our main car will be EV only from now on and at least my wife ICE when it is replaced in 2025ish will be at least a PHEV. Our limiting factor is infrastructure and we need some in west Texas as we do expect to drive out there at least a few times a year but that is years away and we might just go to F it and fly from now on there and just rent a car.
The extra savings are nice but also it is how quiet the Mach E is and being able to charge at home is so nice. Mix that with the raw get up and go of the Mach E is amazing. We both have talked about when we do have to drive her Santa Fe sport how it just does not have much get up and go plus we don’t like the shifts in the transmission any more. Mind you that cars transmission is smooth and has some get up and go. It is just the Mach E is that much better. The turbo lag is now much more noticeable when compare to the Mach E.

The solution for that problem I believe is to go on a long trip in your Mach E that requires multiple DC Fast charging and is a fair distance away from your home. I still have some range anxiety but long trips has help reduces it and the first major one my wife and I are doing is at the end of the month where we are driving to Oklahoma City from Austin. That is going to be multiple DC fast charges to get there. Plus we do not expect to be able to charge at the hotels so going to go round trip from the home on DC only. I think that will great reduce our fear plus we know we can do it.

the other trips have been to like Houston and back and a few to south side of San Antonio so we pushed the range and did charge a little but this one will be the big one.

Escape PHEV, old: Mach-E, Bolt, C-Max Energi, Focus Electric

On my 4th plugin, 3rd BEV:
  • Focus Electric
  • C-Max Energi
  • Bolt
  • Mach-E
After driving the Focus around I cringed every time the C-Max's ICE fired up.

Having said that, however, there still are use cases for an ICE vehicle over BEV at the moment (trailer pulling, heavy duty long distances, etc.). We'll see how the Lightning does but seeing how the Rivian is fairing towing stuff I'm a bit skeptical.

I think, at the moment, the F-150 hybrid better serves the long distance towing market.

Still hanging on to my 18 year old Dodge Ram but it has been driven less than 400 miles so far this year. Even convinced my Wife to color match the Mach-E with it! Lol

Yeah, I’m interested in seeing the real-world testing of the Silverado EV that claims an insane 20,000 pounds of towing. Even if it’s just half that, if the efficiency is even decent then maybe it’ll be a legitimate option. Pulling over to charge every 100-120 miles with a trailer sounds awful considering the current infrastructure.

I will never go back to ICE on my personal vehicle. I've fallen in love with this car, the instant power, the silence, the smooth transition of power. I'm immensely excited to see how the tech evolves and how much better they become in the future, be it battery management, range or handling characteristics. My next vehicle will absolutely be another EV, without a doubt.

My wife was pretty skeptical of me buying an EV, but mainly because she's an accountant and couldn't see the appeal of dropping 70k on a vehicle when my previous vehicle was only 32k. She didn't see the "cost savings" because honestly, at that price difference, there isn't one. But in the months since I took ownership, she went from a skeptic to talking to me about maybe her next vehicle will be electric. She enjoys my car almost as much as I do and she's never even driven it yet. (She doesn't want to for fear of damaging it and unleashing my wrath).
