New car updates

Picked up my Mach e couple weeks back. Since then been getting regular ota updates, all is good. Today we're downloading 5.1.1 which is the pre condition on route to fast chargers. Thing is, my car has done this on route to chargers from the day I picked it up, confirmed with car scanner.

So my question is, are the updates maybe pre programmed at the dealer and the ota updates just go through the motions until they get through them all? Regardless of whether that functionality exists already??

The release notes often don't make any sense and are often reused from OTA to OTA.

They are not a good indication of what changes were applied by the OTA.

The OTA package numbers are indicative of the package you got. The release notes on what was updated lack coherency and accuracy as to what that particular package affected. There is a GitHub project that outlines what each package contains. It is painstakingly maintained by a volunteer who cross-references OTA package numbers with software as-built on VINs when they have received given package numbers. ??

It is says 5.1.1 it installed 5.1.1.

If it says it added preconditioning, it might not have made any sort of change related to preconditioning. Or it might have. We never know what really got changed.
