If I was going to try to leverage the purchase by including software updates, I'd convert the $value for the time it would take the service department to do the updates into dollars/discount on purchase price.

In other words, OK, you tell me that you would do the update but Ford won't let you. Then instead, discount the purchase price for a few hours labor that you would have done if you could.

What I really mean is that I would value the Mongoose purchase in $'s way more than the dealership doing a few updates before delivery. A Mongoose in the glove department is far more comforting over the lifetime of ownership of the Mach-E.
Would love that…. Though I’m using xplan for the deal and they can’t negotiate like that :(

What feature on a 2024 are you worried it won’t have?

Updates for the sake of updates doesn’t really do you any good.

As you can see, this isn’t SOP for new car delivery. I wouldn’t let this hold up the purchase.

My 2021 hasn’t had an OTA in over a year. I had the dealer force all the available updates last week. They did dozens and l haven’t noticed a single thing different.

Not SOP, but as you saw, a dealer "can" do it :) And they should if a customer asks and it's part of a buying experience...

Having a '21 as well... I want to ensure it's fully updated as having not had at on of updates as well.

There's a lot of under the cover changes that happen that you may not see but do have positive impacts

Premium AWD ER in Vapor Blue.

Bitter sweet parting with my '21... but saving on some investment (tires, some door damage) that ford won't bang me on for the return...and it's a color I liked (verses just getting what I could find in the '20 craze!)
If your new car will have the light interior, it will be identical to my 2024 I leased just 45 days ago. Congrats, it’s a gorgeous car and you’re gonna love it!

Yea - i was hoping I'd get sales to have service do me a solid on a new car...

The service manager told me "it's illegal to update a car without instructions from ford" ... ha....
LOL I just called Ford the other day to try to get them to send an update to my car and they told me the only way I could have that is by asking the dealer. It’s like a couple of kids who don’t want to do the dishes. ?

I have tried to have both my Mach-E and Lightning updated by the dealer when purchased - as a condition of sale. That failed both times. They would make the promise at sale and then let the service department say no after the sale….slimy.

I just bought the mongoose, the PL6100 power supply, and do 2 days licenses when I feel appropriate. All good for several months now.

Both cars updated, and yesterday in the lighting I got updated charging and KARAOKE!!! ?

dealers just don't do the OTA updates unless it happens to get one while in the shop. I remember the good old days when you brought a high end model in to the shop and they made sure to update it to the latest availble at each visit. no longer mostly..

Probably. I haven’t tried it yet as my car is in for some tweaks to a recently installed upgraded stereo/sub/transducers.

Yeah, Ford customer service cannot override the VIN grouping for OTAs. OTAs are strictly controlled by the mumbo-jumbo protocols set forth by the redundant department of esoteric tomfoolery department. Dealers for the most part will not break out the manual updates unless there is a specific complaint by the car owner that is covered by a CSP or TSB unless the car’s owner wants to pay them out of pocket. ??

Ford dealers don't get paid by Ford to fix what isn't broken. So they won't do updates unless they can claim a warranty issue..... or you get out your wallet and pay for the updates yourself.
I think it's more nuanced than that. They will generally not go searching for missing OTAs, and they won't get paid for installing OTAs. But they will install specific OTA's when they are doing some other work. Just yesterday I brought my Lightning for 2 software CSP's and I asked them to look at 2 specific OTA's. One has been stuck in unsuccessful install for a couple of weeks and the the other was Tesla SC plug and charge. They won't get paid for installing those, but they aren't charging me for those either.

(I know it's slightly more complicated when things go wrong...but...) I wish I could get paid for clicking 3 buttons on a screen and causing a huge fuss about it.

This really should just be business 101 vs every second being charged as labor

Yes they can, but they don’t because it costs them money as it’s not a warranty claim.

My dealer as SOP does do all available updates whenever you do bring it in for warranty though.

Your best bet is to push for that the first time something actually does go wrong.

As you know you can’t drive these cars too long without a bug or glitch showing up.

Take a video of the glitch, go back, ask for the updates.

Trading in the '21 for a '24 later this week

Asked the dealer to do me a solid and fully update all modules on the vehicle prior to picking it up.

They're giving me a runaround that "we can't just install an update unless told to do so by a publication from Ford or a recall."

Anyone have any easy wording to get around this? Seems silly.
Many of the service departments are independent and not part of the dealership. They charge the dealership just like another customer. This is also happening to the parts departments. Both pay the dealership rent for space.
