Perfect - until the software fails and then the line burns down! Exaggerating a bit but I worked on a small power grid and saw a few bad situations when protection schemes failed.

Another good example for folks who insist the grid can not cope with the growth of EVs... they are simply experiencing a failure of imagination.

As soon as stationary batteries get down to about $50 per kWh I see most households and businesses having about a day's worth stored energy. Also utilities will install a lot of these. A smart grid would optimally manage all of this.

ps - a smart householder can make that day's power last for several days.
