The range estimator (aka guess-o-meter) doesn't matter. What matters is the actual mi/kwh you get in your real-world driving conditions and style. The guess-o-meter tries to estimate what will happen (and is often very wrong), but the mi/kwh is what actually happened.
this i am very aware of. My efficiency at-20° was anywhere from 1.8 miles/kwh to 2.4 miles/kwh. So an actual calculated range of 160-210 miles.

Having driven the car 19k miles so far I find the guess o meter pretty accurate from my experience.
Based on 8000 miles personally and the experience of a large number of others here (including the example of @Murse-In-Airy above) you are in the minority - particularly in colder weather

Hi everyone, Thank you all for the input. I am planning on installing at 50a circuit and ChargePoint charger in our garage. Were only looking at AWD at this point. RWD for my wife is a report waiting to happen. She is in the position to have chargers installed at her offices so she will have the ability to charge at work once that is set up. No telling when that would be in the next few months hopefully.

FYI: since the charger pulls a continuous load for a prolonged period the circuit it is placed on must be rated for 25% higher than the actual current drawn. This is necessary so that the wires and connections don't overheat. So for a charger set to draw 48 Amps (the most the Mach E can take), it must be installed on a 60A circuit.

yes my plan for now is to use wiring large enough to handle the 60a circuit when its usable etc and for now using the 50a. Does the update reportedly coming via OTA include somethings that will change the mile ranges either up or down. Obviously preferabbly up.....

The speculative update would slightly increase the available battery from 88 to around 91 kwh, which would only yield 7 to 10 miles of additional range. You will still need the extended range battery for your wife unless she gets the level 2 charger installed at her office before she gets the car, or you wait until spring to get it

FWIW I have a ChargePoint HomeFlex installed on a 50A circuit using a NEMA 6-50 outlet. It has performed flawlessly for me. I really like the app interface. Just so you are aware, if you use the CPHF in plug in mode (either the 6-50 or 14-50) the max output is 9.6kW (40A*240V). If you need/want to be able to charge at ~12kW (max the MME will take) you will need to have it hardwired.
Another point you may not be aware of is that some utilities offer rebates or discounts on EVSE. I saved $250 on mine by buying it through the power company.

Ok thats good to hear. Im planning on hard wiring the charger which should be here tomorrow. We are still at a loss on where to go. Wife wants it this year for the tax break but if we order the extended range that will put it well into next year. trying to get a timeline on the charger station at her work to see if thats close to being installed .

We regularly do 150 round trips in our RWD Select and still have 30+ ish left but this is Florida. If you precondition in the morning during the winter I can't see a problem if you keep the interior temp low enough. The also keep in mind worse traffic is the better the range.

There's also the 30% federal tax credit in effect off of the costs of the EVSE + electrical installation for circuit.

I'd agree that a 40A charger on a 50A circuit is probably sufficient. With a typical 7% charger loss, that's still 8.9kW. Even if using up 80% of the large battery in a day (~200 miles+), that's 70 kWh / 8.9kW = 8 hours. Although if they have a severe time-of-day price penalty that makes charging in a shorter night window prudent, then a 48A charger might be a consideration. But that's probably unlikely. The Grizzl-E is a good basic 40A charger that many of us have ($459).

If she truly wants the car now and she is going to have a charger to access while at work then go ahead and get a Standard range batter now off a lot if that's your fancy. Sounds like you'll have all the juice you need to get back to 90% overnight at home and with the charger at work giving you some back, you should be fine. Precondition the car with departure time in the winter, drive normally (not like Mario Andretti) and stay away from the e-heat.
