Funny that I see this thread today. I just got a new sw update notification on my 2023 Select, after months of no updates. I wonder what this one includes.

I can’t update until tonight so we’ll see.

I love my 2024 Mustang Mach-E but I'm seriously only going to consider my next car from a manufacturer that invests in their existing customers as much as they do in getting new ones.

Either Rivian (maybe Tesla) and will have to see what the Chinese manufacturers do with updates when they launch here in Canada.

Who knows maybe the new Universal Electric Vehicle program will change Ford's attitude to continuous improvments of their EV products for current owners.

One of the major issues for software-defined vehicles is that they're heavily reliant on the latest hardware to help run the software. I would love to see Ford offer hardware upgrades, but I sure as heck won't buy a new Mustang to get "Bluecruise 1.5".

Here are the main examples of upgrades based on Tesla's official programs and recent developments:
  • Infotainment upgrades (MCU upgrades): Owners of older Model S and Model X (built before roughly March 2018) can purchase an upgrade from the older MCU1 (Intel Atom-based) to MCU2. This improves touchscreen responsiveness, adds features like better video streaming and Tesla Arcade, and costs around $1,500–$2,000 (including installation), depending on the exact setup.
  • Full Self-Driving (FSD) computer upgrades: Tesla has historically provided retrofits for the Autopilot/FSD hardware:
    • From HW2/HW2.5 to HW3 (the "Full Self-Driving computer" or AI computer) — this was complimentary for those who purchased FSD outright (not subscribers), with staggered rollouts starting around 2019–2020 for eligible vehicles.
    • For HW3 vehicles, Tesla has confirmed (via Elon Musk statements and earnings calls) that they will provide upgrades if needed for unsupervised FSD, particularly free for lifetime FSD purchasers. As of late 2025 into 2026, Tesla appears to be preparing or initiating HW3 retrofit processes (e.g., toolbox configurations unlocking upgrade options), though a full HW4 retrofit remains uncertain or challenging due to physical differences (power, wiring, camera compatibility). HW4 upgrades aren't universally available yet for older cars, even if paid.
  • Other retrofits: These include things like camera replacements (for early production vehicles eligible for FSD upgrades), CCS charging protocol enablement (for some models to support more chargers), or specific door handle/door latch retrofits on older Model S/X.

February 16 was my last update for HVAC 25.26. Before that one it was September 4 for Radio Functionality.

The UEV supposedly will drastically reduce the number of modules the cars built on it will have plus Ford regains control over the module programming. The current process is convoluted and slow. One can only hope anyway.

Tesla doesn’t invest in customers. They actively screw them on repairs and occasionally kill one to train their AI camera POS. The CEO is also an incredible douche bag / liar. If that’s your thing, go for a Tesla.

If you have a 21 or a 22, you should assume that your car is at end state for software. I suspect that will only change if there is a software-fixable recall. The hardware on the newer models is different enough that significant effort would be needed to ensure compatibility with older models.

Ford makes money selling new vehicles, not on updating software that works fine on older vehicles. Programmers don't work for free, so if there's no sales $$ or legal reason to update, those resources are going to be working on something else.

I have some hope for new features appearing in the app. They should be able to show door locked/unlocked status, for example. That would apply to lots of Ford vehicles, not just the comparatively small MMEs.

They did exactly that at one point in their beta program for the app. It was dropped after users disagreed with each other about how the status should be displayed. Or so I’m told.

We are our own worst enemy.

My 2021 job 2 has had nine OTA's in the last 18 months since I got it. last one was the Safety Recall 25S65 4 weeks ago. I can't think of any functionality that I'm missing right now. I'm pretty happy with the car.

That last OTA kept getting deferred due to a low LVB state. I had to put the LVB on a charger overnight to get the OTA to complete. That battery is one year old! It's probably because
I average less than 10 miles a day.

My wife's 2023 Nissan Ariya has never gotten an OTA. I am still waiting for one to enable wireless Android Auto.

I was about to post a thread about this exact topic and just happened to see this on the front page.
I find it hilarious that Ford had responded to our previous feature requests with “it’s in the backlog, it will be coming” but nothing materializes. I’m not saying ford hasn’t delivered some features over OTA but getting an update or two a year, mostly recall related, is not inspiring confidence and is actually impacting my decision not to buy another Ford EV in the future, despite liking the non-software related aspects of my current car.

Top of mind features:
-Camp mode/dog mode
-Tesla charges in their freaking navigation (it boggles my mind that Ford wants us to pay for
their connected navigation but refuses to add this basic feature when it’s in current cars which would make me consider paying for it)
-Bring the amperage limit setting from the 2025 model to older cars
-Show charging speed in the instrument cluster or infotainment screen
-Additional streaming app options other than YouTube.

Bug fixes:
-Fix the issue where the setting to disable mirror folding actually turns it off. It’s currently broken in my car.
-Fix the mobile app to show the image for Infinite Blue models. This has been broken since I bought the car in 2021 and seems isolated to only this color as the 2021 Carbonite Grey in my app shows up fine.

I think the pause for the SSM 53966 might have come to an end. I’m on PowerUp 4.2.1.2 and Sync4 version 23187, so am one of those affected. Have had no updates at all since August last year for that reason.

I asked someone on a UK forum (guy is a Ford EV tech) to check my VIN and he says it was now showing updates for the APIM again - the top line in FRDS said:

APIM Sync-25.1.7.10.1 Qualified

He should know, he’s a regular on that group and knows the EV stuff well - he says an OTA will arrive at some point soon, but the precise time is unknowable.. There was a bunch of other updates listed as Pending Qualification too - I’m hoping they become available once the first one is done.

Most of the update contents I don’t care too much about, but I do want that camera button at the top of the screen, for easy access when parking.

Hi,
I have a 2022 premium. I have been seeing this screen for a long time maybe five to six months at least. I am still on software update 10.2.0. It has never been completed and I don't know what can I do to push for this update. What is the latest software update version.
