By the way, believe it or not, I actually saw my kwh to empty increase while doing this procedure due to the temperature increase in HVB. Going from 48F to 68F HVB temp, I saw kwh to empty increase 1.6 kwh. Nothing to write home about but if you do this just prior to an impromtu trip, you might not take a big hit. Only thing I didn't try was this procedure with the car plugged into my L2 charger. I'll try that during the next round of testing that I do.
The problem there is you cannot turn the car completely on when it's plugged in. I don't know if it will precondition based on routing unless it's completely on. It would be an interesting experiment. ??

It won’t work while plugged in. But if you turn on the car while plugged in and turn off HVAC, you’ll get some heating if the battery is cold. Up to about 53°F.
