Ontario HOV

I've had personalized plates for 15 years that I love. I don't think I can drive in the HOV without green plated (not that it'll stop me). Does anyone know for sure if you need the green ones legally?

Unfortunately, that's the law. It's very easy to determine whether a car is an EV, though. No tail pipes. If it's an OPP officer chances are you'll get a ticket.

I have custom plates and I'll admit I have driven in the HOV.

Oh I'll use them for sure and i get pulled over I'll ask the cop if they want to see the junk in my frunk (which is absolutely my go to mindset these days).

Yep, pretty sure the nice police officer will ticket you. I honestly don’t know why we don’t do what Quebec does - essentially a regular plate with a green font. Why not a personalized plate with green instead of blue font?

Pretty sure it won’t be long before we run out of “GV” prefixes…but I’m sure they’ll think of something else.

Like at all? If so they were wrong because I'm using my personalized plates...

Yeah, I looked into this as well if you want the "green plates" there is no option for personalization i was bummed. However you don't have to have the green plates either, you can go regular and get them personalized but then you lose the benefits.

In the new 'merica, you have to pay an extra fee to get the Green Plates, and an additional annual tag fee and an additional EV surcharge , AND it doesn't get you anything, no HOV, no Express, no reduced tolls... I'll just use my no fee military plate, and grin every time I pas a gas station...
And, at least here in GA, they don't bother telling you that you can turn your Green Tag in and save the $35.00 annual special tag fee, you need to find that out for yourself.
