Opening/closing A/C vents

2022 MME GTPE -- Hopefully, a dumb question:

A couple days ago my wife complained that she wasn't getting air from the passenger-side vents, I hadn't noticed since driver-side vents were moving air. I peeked through the passenger-side vents and see what looks like closed shutters.

I've looked at the owner's manual and the touch screen, but I have found no way to open or close the vents. Is there a way? Is it broken?

If you look closely, you'll see a tin vertical dial with dots and an arrow next to each vent. Rotate to open or close in varying degrees.

Our first EV was a Tesla Model 3 dual motor. We are pretty tech savvy for old folks, but it was still a while before using the menus and submenus became instinctive to the point of not being dangerous. For example, varying windshield wiper speed was in a submenu, and then they moved it up, but it was still a menu control. I can't imagine how the learning curve for a rental driver on a Tesla would be so strep as to be anything but drastically unsafe.

When we dumped our Tesla (great car, dangerous IMHO CEO operating way out of his lane, so we "voted" with our wallets), we were very happy to see that Ford has done a much better job of combining "old-fashioned" and therefore intuitive physical touch controls with tech controls. Yes, Tesla's software is better from a dependability standpoint (it's often said that Tesla is a software company that got into the car manufacturing business). But Ford has done a much better job at making it easier for a longtime ICE driver to move to an EV.

And they deserve tremendous credit for that.

I completely agree. I'm a tech person but I want the combination of tech and physical controls. I test drove a Tesla before my Mach E purchase and hated the lack of physical buttons. IMO Ford did a great job.

Liking my 2 month old premium AWD, and wouldn't buy another Tesla....but we will keep the 2018 tesla model 3 since it's been trouble free for eight years and has free Supercharging for life. Elon gave us that little perk because we lived in a fire damaged area....and he hadn't lost his mind yet....
