I've fallen behind on reading the posts on actual orders placed, but I'm curious what US buyers are finding when converting their reservations to orders regarding the committment on dealer deposits. Are you finding them to be fully refundable if you later decide to back out after finally getting to sit in the car?

Did you have to seek that out separately from the dealer, or was that made clear within the online Ford order process, or as an automatic response when the dealer accepted the order?

Before the ordering system came online I contacted Koons to make sure they
1) Charge no ADM
2) Take X-Plan
3) Have refundable deposits

Thanks. Good idea to do all that anyway. But I'm also curious if there's anything in the online order process/response that addresses it, in case one doesn't separately contact the dealer?

Fully refundable from Vista Ford and Galpin Ford in Socal. Have in writing from both. I haven't ordered yet so I don't know if Ford makes it clear or not, but it's the dealer you will have to get your refund for if you don't follow through on the purchase after ordering.

Yes. It says to contact your dealer about refundability of the deposit.

That clarifies it then. In effect, sounds like there's no blanket refundable policy applied, it's just up to each dealer. So we really have to contact them separately before ordering (assuming we want to know about refundability).

I'm a little surprised since it sounds like the dealer deposit is actually paid on the Ford website when converting res-to-order (unless I misunderstood that). When actually making a payment, I'd think the terms and conditions (i.e. refundable or not) would have to be made clear there.

Ford provides the website but the deposit goes to the dealer.

Some of the dealers are announcing their approach (No ADM, plan pricing, refundable deposits) on the web pages - seen quite a few

Yes, but it's still a collection of money for a deposit regardless of who it goes to. If the website is the one collecting the money for deposit as part of an order submission, I would expect there to be terms and conditions that spell all that out (including whether refundable or not) at that point, BEFORE agreeing to an order.

Tim - I believe Ford's order site says something to the effect of "check with your dealer as to the terms of the deposit."
