So tonight I had a catastrophic failure of Paak. Almost left me stranded.

I was sitting in the car at a charger with it on for about an hour. When it was time to go. It gave me "key not detected". I opened the app, it said connected. But it the car still wouldn't start.

Here's were it got bad. I typed in the backup password and the car just said something like "the request could not be processed due to a system error". I tried both the password and normal startup several times to no avail.

So there I was with no Paak and no backup. Not a great look.

Fortunately after pushing the unlock button in the app, the car decided it would detect the key.

Has anyone had the backup password fail like that??

Never had the backup password fail. It does appear that the car has to “phone home” to Ford Intergalactic Headquarters to validate the password and if there’s any kind of “disturbance in the force … I mean Intertubes”, that process will fail spectacularly. I’ve found that my success rate with PaaK increases if I use the unlock button in the app. I’ve even gotten the car to turn on and shift into D, all while it was sitting there whining about not having a key and demanding that the backup password be entered. Clearly PaaK needs more thought. Perhaps in future iterations, they’ll give up and just go to Apple CarKey and call it a day.
I saw on here that someone obtained an extra fob for the car, had it programmed, placed the fob in an RF shielding bag and tucked it away in the interior of the car somewhere. That’s a good idea (if you don’t mind hiding keys). The only thing I’d add would be to remove the battery from that fob. You can always use it by placing it into the emergency fob location.

Yeah I feel like if Paak is a thing the backup password needs to be 100% reliable. Yikes
