Well, stranded last night by PAAK. So, I walk up to the car, does not recognize me, fine, happens, open the phone, open the app, Ford Pass Says BT connected, I unlock the car, try to Start "Key not Detected". Okay, I will kill the Ford Pass app, restart the phone, nothing works. All BT connections are working, Apple Car play is working, Ford Pass can open/close/start/stop everything, but no dice on getting the Key Detected. I did just take the car in for Service on Monday and they flashed what they needed to get the PU0105 installed so that Blue Cruise worked, however, since then, PAAK has worked. Worked on Thursday morning too, on my drive to work, but failed that evening on the drive home. So, I am now ready to use my Backup Start Passcode, unfortunately, I cannot get it to display. Should be an option in Settings, but I could not find it (I could access quite a few of the setting screens, even the manual(!), but could not get the start passcode to display. One thing I did NOT do, and probably should have, is to go into Bluetooth settings on the phone, and find the BT connection for the Ford Key, and tap Connect to see if it would connect manually like you do a speaker sometimes. And maybe disconnect the others for Apply CarPlay and Ford Pass. (my assumption is there are 3 BT connections, one for Ford Pass, one for CarPlay and one for the PAAK, but seems ODD that Ford Pass and PAAK would use a different connection, so might be wrong and there are only 2).
Just happened to me. 2 mile walk back to keys which is fine BUT no keyboard appeared to enter startup code. NEVER EVER trust paak again. One fail is too many.

first to confirm: did you touch the input area to trigger the keyboard to come up? it doesn't come up automatically when the screen shows.

if you did, next steps to try:
  • reboot center console - simultaneously press and hold the seek forward and volume down buttons on the steering wheel for 10 seconds, or
  • press the brake repeatedly until the passcode screen comes up
I had same problem today. Did all the things. No keyboard.

Can I honestly ask why anyone would want to actually use paak? Honest question for a person who still has to have like 3 keys. I mean the fob feels super cheap but it has actually been pretty decent.

I carry a phone with me all the time so obviously I use paak. It's never failed me. I've never carried my fob. If you don't carry a phone, you won't want to use paak. My question is why wouldn't you use paak if you carry a phone. Why carry a fob and phone? Leave one at home.

I have noticed PAAK being a little finicky recently. Not consistent.

But I have yet for it to fail and require me to put the battery in the hidden fob. ?

A few times I noticed that the approach lighting didn't kick on by the time I reached the car.
At that point I can either punch in the B-pillar keypad code, or I can pull my phone out and open FordPass.
If I choose the keypad, I might still have to launch FordPass for the car to recognize PAAK, but I think that's only happened once. Usually by the time I am strapped in and ready to go, all is well.

To me it feeeeels like there's something that is occasionally causing a delay for the PAAK Bluetooth handshake to complete.

Add me to the list. Stuck at work for 35 minutes trying everything I could think of to get PAAK to work or the car to give me a keyboard. After giving up and asking my kid to bring me a key from 45 min away, the car woke up and displayed the keyboard. @Ford Motor Company your software sucks!

Mine has dont that twice, luckily i was at home both times just trying to move the car out of the garage to the driveway and keyboard would not display. Only way to fix it was to reset the PAAK. Because of this i always and will always carry the fob with Me.

you need to tap in the input area - two pics to show the sequence:

then the keyboard should show up:

the important part of the repeated brake presses is to ONLY press the brake; do not also push the start button. the repeated brake presses is the trigger.

definitely a good idea to test it to make sure you know how it works and what to do if there are hiccups.
I tap on the text box every time but the keyboard does not pop up.

I recently experienced this same (with PAAK not working, doing all kinds of resets etc)

Finally found out a way to force the keyboard to show. Simply tap the input field many times fast, maybe around 10-20 times. It will show up.

When I tap in the middle of your red circle works every time. Once you get the keyboard up you will see the curser is in the middle. Dumb programming they should have made the whole block to tap.
