PAAK Failed, no backup Start Passcode

No backup password prompt., repeated your steps verbatim. Left phone in 100% airplane mode. When you go into settings, are you able to tell if a backup passcode is set? I believe mine was wiped when I went to the dealer, in settings (Vehicle->Backup Start Passcode) it just says: To create a backup start passcode, < do this…>, but maybe it says that even if one already exists??

And off of airplane mode, car started just fine.

You can do that too, but that requires you to have aluminum foil handy and do some testing to make sure that the signal is being blocked adequately. You can also purchase a faraday bag or case. Removing the battery is easy and doesn't require you to have anything additional.

The backup start passcode has worked for me without fail for a year and a half now, since the 21P22 Field Service Action software calibration. I no longer accept any software updates, as I suspect these updates continue to break stuff like this for people who do accept them.

Even though it seems to be 100% reliable now, I still hide a key and battery in the car just in case.

the important part of the repeated brake presses is to ONLY press the brake; do not also push the start button. the repeated brake presses is the trigger.

In my 2 years of MME ownership, this hasn't happened to me (yet) and I only use PaaK. With that said, my Lightning experienced this issue the other day and the keyboard would not popup to enter the backup passcode. I did not try repeated brake presses, but I guess I'll try that next time it happens. You shouldn't have to hide fobs in the vehicles....

the context of my answer wasn't the simple case to bring up the backup passcode entry screen - it was when none of the normal methods work to bring up the keyboard. these options, in that context, aren't in the manual at all.

For those of you that have a backup start passcode set, what does your screen look like in settings? In settings, Vehicle -> Backup Start Passcode, if I click backup start passcode, it acts like it’s never been setup before, and wants me to get a phone and a fob. Is that how it looks even AFTER it’s been setup, or does it display an option to clear the existing backup start passcode?

So after deleting my PAAK, then re-adding it, all is working. It’s clear now (after I added a backup start passcode again), that my previously entered code was wiped, probably by a software update/dealer uodate. Will go back to using PAAK, will keep a backup for now, and will check after each software update that backup start passcode is still there and works. The setting screen for Backup passcode specifically asks now if I want to setup a new one, or delete/reset an old one. Previously, it only displayed the option to add a new one.

at time of delivery you should've been given a credit card looking thing with your factory door code. It should've come with your manual, fobs etc. might take a look at all your documents and glove compartment

The card has codes on both sides - US vs non US...

With that master code, can I open the door if I forgot what I set it to ?

One option to store this: Take picture and put it on your phone. You can then Search your photos for “KeyPad” or “code”, and it will find it. Be sure you take the picture of the correct side, I did the one above, then realized it was for the wrong country…
