I have TWO 2024 Premium AWD Long Range Mach-E's: One Eruption Green, one White
Original poster here.
This is the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
After reading all the replies (thank you one and all) I was converted. I would no longer be a slave to the fob.
This morning, I headed out to the garage to drive into town. Walk up to the driver's door, push the button and it opens just like it should.
Sit down, put on my seat belt, step and hold the brake and push the go button, nothing happens. step and hold the brake again and punch the go button, nothing.
Well, there was something, on the big screen was a prompt saying where's the key? (I'm paraphrasing) Please enter secret start code.
I get out of the car, go into the house and retrieve the fob, get in, start up the car and drive away.
With apologies to all you PAAK folks, I will always carry my fob.
I agree 100%. PAAK is, in a word, UNTRUSTWORTHY.

It's always 3 parts: Car, FordPass App, Phone.

Sometimes there is fault with Car, sometimes there is fault with App, sometimes with Phone. All my PAAK issues have always been fault with Phone and it's bluetooth system.

RIght now with current setup, PAAK works 99.9% of time. Sometimes a little slower than I like, but if the phone deep sleeps, what do you expect? How is Ford supposed to fix phones?

When I had Teslas, I never had a PAAK failure.

I would agree PAAK isn't perfect, but they have built in enough safeguards that I don't need a key.

Now, had Ford not designed the keyfob to be the size of a boat anchor, I might be more likely to carry it on occasion. Those days I am running a bunch of errands in and out of the car, or days it's dumping rain.

I would agree Tesla has done a much better job at this, but not perfect. I still need to turn around so I can see that my phone is in my back pocket to open the trunk.

I add a fourth part: Android OS or for those with Apple cell phones I/OS. Again, twice problems using PAAK were due to Android OS not FordPass App, car or cell phone.
Now, if by listing Phone you mean the OS, then I agree but problems can exist with the cell phone hardware or network separate from the OS.

Perhaps a bit picky. I do appreciate your listing those three parts which highlight the layers involved.

Some times I get to the car after it has been parked for a few days and PAAK doesn't work right away. If it continues to not work, I then force quit the ford app on my phone and open it up again and all seems right after that.

3 years, only PaaK. There have been some hiccups but never stranded. That’s what the backup codes are for. FOBs are for the dealer / tire shop / etc.
Ditto for 5 years.

If you haven't been using PaaK before this one test, you might need to delete the phone and add it back. Some updates have caused problems with PaaK.

Agree, I was just simplifying. I think my problems with the Pixel phone were always the Bluetooth SW subsystem or the firmware of the chip.

Been getting progressively worse for me recently. Went to pick up a friend. And it took a couple minutes to get it working after getting back into the car...even with the app open, I was continually being told there was no key.

I go straight to the backup start code on the occasions that happens. Zero troubleshooting on my part or tolerance for the failure to communicate. :)

I sure have. I really like my Tesla as well as the Mache, but to me, the delay with Tesla is far worse than with the Mache. The Tesla would lock me out while it recorded, as if there were a security breach. My Tesla did not come with a fob; the key card is the backup. So after digging to get my key card out of my wallet, I still had to wait until the recording stopped. Thankfully, this hasn't happened in a good while.
