Passenger door having intermittent issues opening

Over the past month or so, the wife would have issues opening the passenger door. I unlock ahead of time, she pushes the button, and I hear a whirring sound but the door does not open until 1-2 more pushes on the button. I've also watched the door lock and the light is off to indicate that the doors are unlocked. This doesn't happen every single time so it's odd and difficult to pinpoint a cause. We've also tested where I leave it locked until she has clicked it, then I unlock and it'll pop open automatically so not sure what to think.

Anybody else experiencing something similar? Could it possibly have something to do with a weak/older 12V (I haven't yet changed the battery since I purchased the vehicle in 2022)? Or maybe the actuators/presenters? I've had the door error come up in the past but it was related to the driver door if I remember correctly. The dealer resolved the issue and I haven't seen that same error since.

I guess my main question is whether she tries pulling when she hears the sound. In other words, is the door actually failing to unlock, or merely failing to present? Perhaps it's just the presenter that's broken. Your test makes me think maybe the opposite - perhaps the latch itself is faulty, and the presenter is trying to present before it has finished unlatching.

It seems unlikely to me that it's a 12V problem. If it were, I'd expect you to have the same experience on the driver's side.

In any event, assuming you're out of warranty and can DIY, it probably makes the most sense to just replace both the latch and presenter and see if it's fixed. If you're in warranty, well, let them handle it!

So when I say I hear the whirring sound that’s typically associated with the door unlocking/opening, that’s me hearing it from the driver’s seat. I’m not sure it’s loud enough to hear on the outside. She insists the button is lit up before she clicks it. Doesn’t pull until the door presents since that’s been the behavior since the test drive.

I’m outside of the warranty period but I did purchase the extended warranty from Granger. Maybe this will be covered but not great for long term.

It certainly should be covered. “Auto lock and unlock system” is explicitly mentioned in the PremiumCare EV brochure.
