Planning my first road trip

Roll call for my Virginia friends : I'll be taking a 12-day vacation/road trip soon. Fayetteville, NC to Aberdeen, MD. I've driven this trip many times on I-95 ( ugggg !! ) but never in my MME. Driving back to Lansing, NC mountains before returning home to Fayette Nam. Scoping out various roads to take from Baltimore through VA. I really don't want to run I-81 ALL THE WAY and turn my battery range into dust. Maybe Hwy 29 from Culpepper to Lynchburg and Hwy 221 to Roanoke to Hwy 58. Are these all decent roads ? Appreciate any tips or tricks for taking the long way home in an EV.

29 south of Charlottesville is a nice drive, but consider the Blue ridge parkway if you aren’t in a hurry.

There’s a new EA at a Target Shopping Center just north of Charlottesville. Top up there, then Take 250 west out of Charlottesville, then 151 South. Just south of Nellysford, if you’re in pig eating, go to The Blue Ridge Pig. Call ahead to see if they are open.

If you aren’t into the meats, I like the pizza at Blue Mountain. They have good beer too, some of my favorites. You can buy some Kolsh 151 to commemorate the occasion.

You probably shouldn’t drink that beer while driving, but if you’re looking for a pick me up, Trager Bros Coffee is a surprise. They’re in the community center past the transfer station. I know… doesn’t sound right, but trust me on this.

You can keep going on 151 and it will rejoin 29. Or you can hang a right onto 664 and drive the blue ridge parkway. On the parkway , the speed limit is low, but the curves are fun. Your efficiency will be amazing.

If you take the parkway, drop out to Bedford, VA on Peaks Rd at the Peaks of Otter visitor’s center. Bedford has the D-Day memorial for reasons that will break your heart. There’s a Tesla station. Bring your adapter.

From there, it’s dealer’s choice. I run out of knowledge.

Personally, I am a fan of Connected Navigation, because it provides the most accurate range estimates in my experience and works in areas with limited or no cell service, unlike some of the app based solutions.

I know that replying to my own post is bad form, but I wanted to make sure that you’re comfortable with the route when you go “in country,” use A Better Route Planner as @RickMachE so succinctly put it or you can just use Apple Maps or Google Maps.

Your native mapping has some set up, but it’s a one time investment. After you set it up, you can do the Apple/Google cheat to plan your route: waypoints. So it you want to take the blue ridge parkway, for example, drop a pin in Rockfish Gap and another one on Peaks of Otter visitor’s center. If it tries to pull you off the ridge, add another waypoint in between.

Finally, if the Blue Ridge Parkway is too adventurous, then 151 is a nice alternative. There’s charging in C’ville and in Lynchburg and you should have no trouble making that hop.
