Does anyone have experience with this Point Guard home solar battery bi-directional charging system for the Mach-E?

Yep, that's our video and we also did this one with Sigenergy (their new name) where they showed it working with a Mach-E, Rivian, Lucid, Tesla, and Kia cars.

The homeowner in that first video is in San Diego and I'm sure he'd be open to answering any questions you have. And I can do my best to answer your questions, too.

I’m the home owner, still absolutely loving this system. Since the AC hasn’t been running I’ve been off grid for about a week straight now and charging the EVs with the excess, so I’m barely using any electricity at all! Feel free to ask away! Jamar power systems was great, the owner Phil is installing the same system in his own home right now.

What was the cost?

It should be cheaper now, but Sigenergy has been tight lipped on exactly how much. I paid $34k all said and done with an additional 10 panels and some other electrical work and repairs to my existing Enphase system. My best guess is around $20k for the same stack I have, which is 2 8KWH battery modules, the V2X unit, the inverter, gateway and install. I used Jamar Power Systems out of Santee and they were excellent. They service all of San Diego county. The owner of the company, Phil, is getting the same system installed in his own home. They’re electricians first and do solar and batteries as part of that business rather than being a company that just does solar, so they really know what they’re doing. Tell them I sent you if you use them! https://jamarpower.com/solar-power/referral-program/

edit for extra info: it’s a modular stack, so you can start with as much or as little as you’d like and go from there. I believe the V2X unit itself is around $4k. You can get 6 or 9 kWh batteries in any order or combination you like and it’s designed to work with any future battery chemistry since each battery module operates independently. Check out Sigenergys website, it’s really an amazing and flexible system that they’ve already updated to from 5 and 8 kWh battery modules.

I'm on the east coast near Atlanta. Electricity is far cheaper her. Last month my bill was $150.00 with me charging my Mach e and driving around 70 miles a day. I am always curious about solar costs because in my mind I would like to retire off grid. Realistically I will probably not do that though.

I completely understand, our rates in San Diego are pretty outrageous as well. When I bought this house in 2018 my first electricity bill was $802. I threw up, then went straight to the phone and called solar companies for quotes. Got that system and it worked great until I added EVs. My goal with the Sigenergy system is to be effectively completely off grid. Using the V2X I won’t need to use grid energy at all once I’ve got a surestart installed on the AC unit I have. Right now it pulls from the grid for a second at start up due to the peak energy needed to start it. I only use my AC for about 3 months out of the year, so the rest of the time I should be totally off grid and running my EVs off of excess solar. It feels good knowing that no matter what happens, I can power my house and cars indefinitely. I don’t want to keep paying the utility company and I want the assurance of having my own fuel station built into my house. Full freedom from the oil companies and utilities!

Wow! This is great. I was seriously regretting buying the Mach-e after I found out it could not support bi-directional charging. FORD... PLEASE SUPPORT THIS OPEN STANDARD!
I hope I can purchase this system in Canada. I would use it for Peak shaving by charging the EV at night and using the car battery to offset the grid during the day.
