Here’s an odd question that I asked at my local dealership yesterday:
So I’m at local Ford dealer… They got a nice Premium RWD (2023) AND a CR1 (2022 RWD) both in my desired color. So I ask the sales guy, “would you consider swapping the wheels from the CR1 onto to that Premium? I like the smaller wheels (I know, I’m strange), and you might have a better chance of selling that CR1 with more stylish wheels”

The sales guy told me that he’d check with his boss and get back to me. Is this a dumb request ? I like the ride quality of the smaller aero style wheel.. and range, if there really is much of an increase, would just be a bonus (?) Is there something I’m missing? Maybe there’s a performance issue I’m not even thinking about.. what say you?

Depends on if you do more highway or city. I would prefer the Premium rims myself. Even with only RWD I notice a lack of traction on my Select with the eco tires.

They won't swap wheels from one dealer car to another. Sure, you could go on your way with a car set up with the wheels you want, but the next person who comes in to buy the other car will see that the wheels on it as it sits in the showroom do not match the window sticker. Worse yet would be if someone did buy the car and found out once home that the wheels had been substituted by the dealer and did not match what the window sticker said, and what they were buying by contract.

This is a great point. It’s probably why he didn’t give me much of a response. Sales guy was nice. He did tell me, “you should just get the CR1, if you like those wheels”. Meh, I’ve had worse response to my questions from sales guys.

You can always replace with smaller tires or use aftermarket wheels and tires (my suggestion).

Do keep in mind, these cars are HEAVY. The extended range battery variants are heavier than nearly every F150 sans the hybrids which adds 800lbs, or the diesel which went away in 2021. So when you look at the MME, you should picture it as a large cab 4x4 F150 in terms of mass. Most of them come with 275mm of tread. The 4,000lb F150s, the small cheap fleet vehicles do come with a base tire of 245mm, which is what the GT/PE come with.

In short, be smart with your selection.
