'Precondition Now' Button

Would you still want a "Precondition Now" button if you had to wait 45 minutes or longer?

I'd like to add the reverse Scenario:

You live in AZ or some other super hot summer place. You get home and the car asks to plug in because the pack is hot and/or it's 115 degrees in the shade. You want to cool your battery but not charge and you are on a TOU plan.

If "Precondition now" means: Don't charge, but happily cool the pack. I'd like the button, on the dash or as i turn off the car.

(I'd really like it to just act like my FFE... in many ways more than just this)

Curious about this. Let’s also say you have your charging hours set to 10PM-8AM in the Mach-E (EVSE set to anytime). If you come home at 5PM, get that message, and plug in does the car:

A) Immediately chill the battery but not charge it until 10 PM
B) Immediately chill and charge the battery
C) Do nothing until 10 PM, then cool+ charge

?

It wont be hot enough until next week for me to try this, daily, for the next 250 days lol.
My time is 9pm to 9am (summer peak hours on SRP are only 2pm to 8pm) otherwise it's off peak sub $0.08 kw

My FFE does A.

Yeah hopefully it does A. Honestly it should start chilling the battery as soon as you turn the car off without plugging in if the battery is at 45°C/113°F, as long as there is sufficient battery power. I think that’s what Teslas do.

I agree, it can't be that much power to run the chiller, pump and fan. Anything is better than nothing and continuing to heat soak.

Sadly with the current L2 charging issues I think they might have screwed the pooch on this as well, or my car is really out of wack.

My charge time is 9pm to 2pm (a pretty huge window thanks to SRP only being peak from 2pm to 9pm)
Came home after heat soaking the car twice now. Arriving about 4pm, it's 105 today, was 114 the other day. 50% SOC the first time 68% SOC this time. Go to key off and car say "It's hot plug it in" So I do.
It proceeds to request 1.5kW for about 10 min. No pump, no fans, no noise at all. It did the same when it was 114 out. Makes me wonder if anything at all is going on. This current answer to 'what's it do if hot during a no-charge window does bode well with doing anything to help with the heat soak.
I havn't been able to get the HV battery temp when it's doing this as i've forgotten to put my tablet back in the glove box. But have no fear there's still 2 or more months of 100+ degree days for me to get the numbers.

Ford is kinda screwing themselves here if the battery isn't cooling when it's supposed to because of the bugs in the software. If the battery is getting too hot all the time, it might not last the warranty period.

I would be curious to know the pack temps if you can swing it. I keep my OBDLink MX+ plugged in all the time and just whip out my phone anytime I wanna check temps.

Sadly, I just have the EMX, it's the corded connector so I have to jack it into a Samsung tablet. Thought I was getting away from needing ODBII connectors but I guess I’m wrong.

So far I havn't gotten the pack temp above 110. And the 4 times I've plugged in now when getting the message no fans, no vents but something is chewing 1.5kW. If I check the coolant fluid temp I'm not seeing anything over 106. But usually I end up with a 20+ min drive when it's been heat soaked so maybe it's doing a good enough job to not require fans etc (even though it's telling me it's hot, plug it in)

I just realize how to do a precondition now. I added another departure time and set it an hour before I left. The only crappy thing is I have to pick a repeat day. No issue as long as I remember to delete/disable it afterwards.

Give me the button now! Stop holding basic functions hostage by NAV subscriptions, you troglodytes :D

On a serious note; how hard can it be from a technical standpoint to add a fifth button on top row or an extra button in the first vehicle control screen for this? Make it so that when you click it the user is informed about its pros and cons, as well that that there is a visual icon that indicates it running. Nothing fancy.
