Trains are the most cost effective way to transport large amounts of goods, including cars. It is also a lot safer. How much more are you willing to spend to get your car? A few hundred? A few thousand?

A lot of qualified truck drivers left the profession 2 years because of the pandemic. They either retired, or found other types of work. Ford can't force people to become truck drivers to deliver your car.
No, they absolutely cannot “force” truck drivers to deliver my car. But they sure can hire them! Amazon runs thousands of trucks!
Trains are cheap. You know what’s not cheap? Thousands of Mach-E’s, Lightnings, F150’s sitting in a parking lot for well over 2months. So no matter how much the “save” on the train ride…the delay and lost revenue, and the lost customer good will….it all comes at a cost.

I think what put me over was the reply from my dealer today….”We don’t know when it will arrive” <sigh>
Trucking Companies, including those that specialize in hauling cars, have just as much of a manpower shortage, perhaps more do, than railroad companies do. Switching to trucking the cars isn’t a solution.

Can't hire people who don't want to work a particular job. And you can't just hire anyone to drive a truck to deliver a car. Or to hire someone off of the street to drive a car to you. There's rules and regulations that govern that stuff, including things like certified training, etc.

The entire automotive industry, is suffering this problem. It isn't just a Ford issue. I get the annoyance for the delay. I really do. I waited 8 months to get my car. 2.5 months was spent waiting for a chip before it could leave Mexico. And then it spent another month in KC waiting to get loaded on a train headed out west.
