My wife and I share our new Mach-E ('23 Premium ER AWD), and I'd like to confirm our experiences with phones and seat memory are the expected behavior.

I set up my profile to be linked to a particular seat/mirror memory setting, my PaaK, and my fob. My wife created a separate profile that is likewise linked to her seat/mirror memory setting, her PaaK, and her fob. We also added our phones to SYNC for Android Auto (me) / Apple CarPlay (wife).

I would have expected that, when I get in the car after my wife last drove it, it should change to my profile, my seat/mirror settings, and start Android Auto. This isn't what happens. It does change to my profile. But it goes to her seat/mirror settings, so I have to press my number (physical button on the door) to get it to move to my seat/mirror position. Also, SYNC is still set to her phone, pulling up Apple CarPlay and notifying me that it cannot connect to the phone. I have to go into settings and tell it to switch to my phone. (It then takes about 15 seconds to switch over, but that may be because I have a Google Pixel 7 Pro, and there are separate threads about that).

These are minor inconveniences, but for a $60k car, I guess I was expecting better coordination. Is something wrong here, or is this as good as it gets for now?

You've got the same setup as me...

It should work better than what you've described. Normally I'd tell someone that you just are doing something wrong but the whole phone as a key thing is very buggy, especially with multiple fobs present.

I'd recommend turning off the phone key stuff just as a test to try to narrow the field of possibilities.

First, unlock the car with your FOB, then leave the FOB and phone outside the car. Get in, and verify that each profile button on the door adjusts things properly.

Second, get in with your FOB, and verify that your profile shows a fob, and your phone, linked to it, and that your wife's profile does also.

Regarding first step: The buttons on the door work as expected without any key in the car (side note: I did trigger the car's alarm).

Regarding second step: I turned my phone's BT off and used just the fob. The images below show that both profiles have fob and phone linked. I toggled back and forth between the profiles, and it adjusted the seats when I did so. I left it on my wife's profile, exited and locked the car, unlocked the car, got back in, and upon turning it on it changed to my profile and moved the seat to my position! Because BT was off (and I don't currently have access to my wife's phone), I couldn't test if it would have switched from CarPlay to Android Auto.

So is it something with the PaaK?

If you are carrying the fob all the time, I’d disable PaaK. If you use PaaK, don’t bring the fob too unless you need to (dealer visits require a fob). My profile glitches seem to be entirely related to having both a fob and PaaK trying to connect at the same time.

There are other current threads noting the recent ongoing issues with PAAK and Pixel phones. I have also experienced this apparent PAAK failure. The Ford Pass app still gives a warning about development for Pixel phones being incomplete, which might be at the root of some of these issues but one wonders how long they can lean on this considering P7s are soon to be supplanted by P8s, so are hardly "bleeding edge" tech, at this point.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'll roll with the fob for now, as it seems to at least get the seat memory to work at start up without pressing buttons. I'll investigate if the Android Auto experience improves at all.
