I see when a car is being updated at the dealer it requires a charger on the 12v battery to make sure that the car doesn't die during an update. What happens on OTA? Is there no fear of the 12v battery dying? Also, does the car need to be plugged into a charger for updates to occur? I only plug my car in once a week, does this hurt my chances to get OTA updates? Should I plug it in nightly?

The OTA process is much different than FDRS. You do not need to use a power supply or have the car plugged in for OTA. But you may get queued OTAs quicker if you drive the car every day.

OTA does check the battery status before applying updates. It will wait until the 12V battery is charged enough before attempting again. Also the update process is much faster so they apply before the battery can go dead.

Maybe I should

Since I sometimes go without driving for a couple of days, maybe I should be turning the car on in the garage daily and letting it sit for an hour or so at a time. I'm a Job 1 sitting at P-UP 2.1

That's really not necessary unless you're been getting low 12V battery messages. Just drive it around for 10 minutes every day or two.

My dashcam does cause some drain. I've started to unplug the cam when I'm not expecting to drive for 2 days or so.
