Range goes up when 'idling'

I often sit in my MME and do work stuff for a couple of hours. the car is turned on, the radio as well and steering and seat heating. nothing else.

I have often noticed the range goes up on the small dash when I am 'idling' this way.

for instance I write this as I was idling. it'e been about an hour and when I started, range was 107 miles. it is 119 miles now. outside temperature is 10C if it helps.

charge hasn't dropped much. 2%.

any explanations?

mind you, I am not complaining!

With the car running, especially with the heater off, the battery can heat itself.

not always. it can rise in the morning, stay constant, or fall in the evening. this is the United Kingdom. no one can predict the fricking weather!

You are seeing the guess-o-meter range projection at work. It is just that, an estimate or a guess. Have no doubt, the energy in your battery is decreasing, but the vehicle is looking at your present (low) consumption rate, and recalculating how far you will be able to drive based on a lower projected energy consumption rate.
