Hello.
I own a 2023 California Route 1, which is supposed to have a range of about 310 miles.
I have driven about 8000 miles so far and the trip log indicates an average efficiency of 3.3 miles per kwh.
That makes sense, but when fully charged at 100 %, the estimated range generally hovers around 285 miles. Does that make sense? I have done the reset multiple times.
Any insight is appreciated.

The EPA estimated range of 312 miles is based on a mix of city and highway driving... Back when highways were much slower. On my daily commute, I drive an average of 40 mph (mix of faster and slower, but nothing over 65 mph), which means the guess-o-meter thinks I will have 312 miles of range. If your typical driving is faster, your GoM will spit our a lower estimate. Same if it's colder out.

Ok thekat03. That makes sense, but if the driving history of 8000 miles indicated 3.3 miles per kwh on 91kwh battery, would the guessometer not take that as an average?

No, because you keep resetting the driving history. The estimated range is just a guess. The car doesn’t know how or where you’ll be driving next.

Seems right, it's named the GOM for a reason. Without having details on your battery, lets assume it has 95% health. 91x.95=86.45 take 86.45 and multiply it by the efficiency you stated of 3.3 and you get 285 miles. Not saying that's how the GOM is coming up with that number but it seems like an accurate guess.

Sure, but that 3.3 also is a bit of an estimate. For some reason, the miles/kWh displayed jumps by 0.2 when you get above 3, so it shows 3.1, 3.3, 3.5, 3.7, 3.9, and then by 0.3 above that point. I suspect rounding errors. Basically, the math isn't perfect, and it may bias more heavily toward more recent drives. The GoM also recalculates if you program in a route, influenced by typical speeds and driving conditions on that route. I don't know exactly what the math is, but that's the trend I see on my 2023 CR1 with 23,000 miles on it.

Or on short, yeah, the numbers you gave make sense.

However, if you program a destination into your Ford navigation app, the range guess could change significantly. For instance, I frequently drive 100 miles from near sea level to 7000 feet elevation. If I program that destination into nav system the estimated range will go down 30-40% or so.

Do not reset your driving history. If you do then the GOM will only use the limited last driving history.
