READY light

Can someone please tell us what this always on stupid ready light is for?

? funny you should ask. I noticed this Thursday and I wondered the same thing. Now I don’t remember if it has been there for the last six months or if my observation skills are shot?

It's always been there.

It's a visual indication that the car is on, since there's no engine noise. It may be a requirement for EVs. Our Volt and Hybrid Sienna both have it.

READY means either the car is turned on and ready to rock and roll, or it’s trying to communicate with me but is misspelling my name.

Without that how would you know if the car is running and the answer to “why isn’t this damn thing shifting into drive!!!??” ?

“Ready” means the high voltage is energized and the car is capable of moving when placed into drive. It’s a federal requirement that all EVs have some type of green ready light to indicate to the driver the car is able to move if the shifter is touched, since there is no engine noise.

"Go Speed Racer, Go"
"Go Granny Go"
"Proceed"
"Engage"

I'll agree to disagree. Telling people the answer, and that it's in the manual, might get them to actually open the manual and find all sorts of things that they didn't know they had, or how they worked.

The solid light, non flashing, on the start button is my cue. The constant Ready message seems basic and redundant. I understand the federal requirement part! I have the Forscan dongle and should change it for my own gratification as Rick suggests.
