The last thing I'm worried about any car doing is crashing into a fake styrofoam painted wall.

Stationary objects are a problem for almost all non lidar systems, including the MME. Every car I've ever owned would likely crash into that wall or a fake person standing still.

I love Mark's videos and he owns a Tesla. I think people on both sides are looking at this with some level of derangement rather than what Mark is known for, science.
I found it entertaining and a bit educational. I saw some subsequent videos where others with Teslas were able to duplicate his results, but then they tried with cybertrucks and the cybertrucks stopped. The video makers speculated it may have something to do with a different computer on the cybertrucks. I’m not sure I understand that logic but, again, for me it was mostly just entertainment. Which model Teslas pass and fail the test ultimately won’t impact me, unless one hits me ?

It was entertaining, like most of Mark's videos, but, at least for me, it was very predictable. Nothing in his video surprised me. If we were to take an, equally silly, approach to science and put glass walls on each side of the road with a fake human dashing out in front of the car, the opposite would have happened, the vision based system would have seen through the glass and seen the object, whereas LIDAR will not see through glass.

If we take a more practical example of someone backing up out of a parking spot with a kid running down the street, that front facing LIDAR is garbage and unless you have LIDAR pods on your trunk you're not going to see behind the cars next to you. A vision system would see that. 15,000 people each year get hit by cars in reverse and many hundreds die.

All of these systems have beneficial use cases. I do believe that advanced AI vision systems will be considered the best systems out there for 90% of driving and offer the best product for the price. Some of the very advanced security systems that we use for defense purposes are AI camera based and many are supplemented with IR and Radar for inclement conditions. It's not just the auto industry that believes in AI vision systems.

It's unfortunate that some people can't appreciate the advancements made by thousands of hard working engineers and programmers who dedicate their entire lives to developing LIDAR and vision based systems which aid in saving lives. I don't believe, for a moment, that Mark's intent was to bash on any company or person, but rather to document the differences in technology.

Endanger the public?

Drive like this. I dare you. I bet you can't drive this well if you tried.
Impressive regardless of what Make a Vehicle is in the metal. As a side note, I felt completely and utterly sorry for anyone that lives in traffic like this. You must have amazing patience and no horns? I thought that was the primary mode of communication in Jersey and NY. Nice!
