Aside from not being able to use my radar detector, the infra-red windshield is a night and day difference between every other car I've owned. The heat buildup when the vehicle is parked in direct sun is very noticeable. Especially when you touch that front dash underneath the windshield. In most cars, you could cook an egg on it after the vehicle has been parked in the sun.

Wish it was an option for my Expy to be honest.

Does anyone know if these windshields are available as aftermarket for other vehicles?

Why not just get a clear ceramic tint applied to your other vehicle windshield? I read they are supposed to have similar heat rejection properties as the IRR on the MME. I would think that tinting would be cheaper/easier.

I came here to say exactly this. I can't recommend Llumar Formula One Pinnacle or Stratos enough... Llumar offers up to 80% I believe? I've had both 50% Pinnacle and 70% air tint on previous vehicle's windshields. The difference is astonishing. However, for the investment of getting ceramic window tinting, you really need to do every single window. In the past, I've had all windows minus the windshield done and it truly defeats the purpose of the IR rejection properties. In short, don't spend money on ceramic unless you're doing every piece of glass.

Upon receipt of my MY22 MME, it's going directly to my preferred tinting and paint shop for ceramic tint and getting the entire front clipped wrapped in PPF. I'm also getting the pano roof done as I feel it doesn't have enough IR rejection properties.

Do all Mach-Es have a IR heat-rejecting windshield? With I had my MY21 select I needed a sunscreen to block hear. I’ve upgraded to a MY22 CA Route 1 and am wondering if I need to add ceramic heat rejecting tint.

Driving my Route 1 in South Florida, I have found it completely unnecessary to tint the IRR glass roof and windshield, even though I was expecting to do both. I tinted the side windows and left the rest alone to see if I deemed it necessary. It hasn't been.

This is the first car I've had where I chose not to tint the windshield. It's also the first sunroof I've had without a shade, and even so, the best in my experience at reducing heat gain in the car.

To be honest, I can't say for a fact that I've had any aftermarket tinted windshield that blocks heat as well as this, though admittedly I've never ventured into the ultra-high end films like XPEL XR or the like.

Is there a risk to tinting the windshield given the IR coating? I’ve heard it can increase the chances of cracking??
