I don't know what to say anymore. All of you have good points. Don't let
these posts drive us to hatred to one another. We will all act the way we
feel is right going forward. We won't change each other's minds on the way
of how to go about and do this. We are all different and will approach the
opening up how WE see is best for us. We have waited very long and now we
must start the economy. The Southern states will shed light on this soon.
I do think they opened the valve too much too fast.
So far there is only one guy on this thread that is completely worthless and spreads partisan hate with almost every post. We all know who that is and on this thread, he is loathsome.

For the rest on this thread, honest debate is a great thing. Sometimes we get "excited", but as long as we don't let the excitement get too personal, we are all fine. Hopefully we can all learn a little something we didn't know or think of before.

Nor did I say anyone here said "throw open the gates". However, if you think those voices aren't out there among the Liberate folks, you haven't been paying attention.
Again, why must we focus on the lowest common denominator? Why not engage smart and thoughtful people? Unless it is a state Governor saying "throw open the gates", why do you care what some thoughtless fire starter in "nowheresville" says? It is a straw man argument and all it does is confuse and obfuscate. Classic media propaganda. (And again, no, this isn't partisan.)

You may doubt that, but I don’t. Bill Maher was not alone in his hopes for a recession, knowing it would hurt people, but nonetheless feeling it was the best way to get Trump out. Trump Derangement Syndrome results in a short circuiting of all brain synapses and a preponderance of irrational thinking. I see it on the tube so often that it scares the hell out of me. You’ve got people on CNN that insist Trump released the virus to kill minorities. I mean you can’t even make this stuff up.

As far as your persistent claim of a ‘large contingent’ who still think the virus is a hoax, I’ve never met them, seen them or would even hazard a guess as to their party affiliation. Sounds like more hyperbole to me.

Now if your claim was that many think the virus is being overplayed in terms of its severity, then you’ve got a valid case. As more facts are revealed, as in the latest Stamford University study, there may be very valid grounds for that thinking. That study showed the number of people that have been infected with the virus and never even knew it, may be 50x-100x greater than was first assumed. That would make the fatality rate significantly less than 1%!! So we’d be back into a severity on par with a flu season.

And my advice to all is to block that loathsome individual. I reached the point where I refused to tolerate the vitriolic hatred in almost all his posts. His love for the Chinese Communist Govt, that through their bungling and lying released this pandemic on the world with catastrophic results, was the last straw for me. He is a hate-filled troll.

I sincerely doubt that. I haven't spoken with or heard from anyone who is happy about the economic costs we are already suffering, much less making it worse. That statement is true of my Republican and my Democratic friends and it's true of everything I've read online. Making sure we are as safe as we can reasonably assure, yes. Spiraling into a depression? Absolutely not. I can't imagine that there are nearly as many folks out there who want us to go into a depression as there are folks who are convinced that we don't need to take any action to protect us against Covid-19. There is a large contingent out there who still feel Covid-19 is a hoax that combines with the anti-vaxxers.

Feel free to prove me wrong.
I'm still wondering why you seem very unconcerned about the possible coming economic collapse? Especially since it will disproportionately affect the lowest income people in this country. I haven't heard you looking for ways to get this economy moving, but seem very focused on why it should stay closed.

And I thought of today while watching the daily Presidential COVID-19 briefing, that the media has asked few if any questions about the harsh affects the economy is already having and the possibility of dire consequences going forward. No questions that I recall and have watched quite a few of the daily briefings over the past 2 or 3 weeks.

There were plenty of questions about why things weren't shutdown quicker. Plenty on unsubstantiated rifts between the President and his COVID-19 team members. Plenty on why the Federal government is woefully inadequate since it isn't doing everything for everyone. Today there was a classic question to Dr. Birx about whether she would like to condemn Georgia for allowing people to go to barber shops. (Yes, a haircut can't happen without someone dying these days it seems.) The question wasn't exactly that, but it was worded in a way hoping that the doctor would say that Georgia is not doing the right thing and barbers should be closed since you can't cut hair from 6ft away.

But no questions about how much longer this economy can survive being shutdown. No personal account from someone that had to layoff their staff and close their business for good, Through all the balanced coverage you think you are seeing in your media circle and favorite hometown paper, why is there seemingly nothing at the daily briefings in support of those currently suffering financially or with other "elective" health conditions?

There are very few ‘reporters’ at these daily briefings that ask questions that are truly directed at uncovering useful information on the virus or it’s impact on the economy. Many have only one objective, how can we try to make Trump look bad. The hell with the economy or the people.

I actually laugh when the President calls on CNN and as he’s about to do that, prefaces it with “OK, here we go”. Almost every single question starts off with either, “You said on March 14...” or “If you hadn’t screwed up, don’t you think the virus could have been stopped in its tracks?” (or something to that effect). They repeat the same questions every single day. Unreal.

Of course rather than making a fool of Trump, he makes a fool of them. He’s a lot smarter than they are. I understand they’re following the marching orders of Jeff Zucker, but geesh, the hatred is so obvious. Have you ever looked at their faces when they ask these inane questions? There’s venom dripping from their lips, whether it’s the clown Jim Acosta (who, in actuality, many in the media do not like) or the young guy whose name eludes me.

I had the most fun watching the briefing where when getting a question from a Chinese reporter, Trump’s gut told him the reporter worked for some Chinese state run media operation. She denied it, but it later came out that he was bang-on correct. The woman simply lied (what a surprise).

I always say to my wife that Trump has an amazing level of self control at these briefings. I would lose it with their daily exhibitions of stupidity. But he seems to thrive on it.

I told myself not to post today. All of you have helped me and others
to best understand our lives and future to come. Thanks to all. Yes at
times we get carried away and bash others. All of you must try to keep
on the subject at hand. I do not want to loose this site because of a very
few can not conduct themselves in a respectful way. Just where are we
to go and talk if they shut us down ? This site and all of you have helped
me understand and cope with what we are facing. All of us must stop
and think about how much we gain posting our views here. This is the
ONLY place I get any relief from the lock down. If we loose it you will only
have your other half to speak to !!! Administrator I want to thank you
again from all of us for this thread that helps all to cope with our concerns.

BE NICE TO ONE ANOTHER AND QUIT BASHING !!
BE THANKFUL FOR THIS THREAD.

I am Upset with this admin about its failure to get testing available. I am really concerned about the economy for all the reasons everyone has mentioned. If we had testing widely available we could be goiNg back to work now with much more confidence. This is a failure of the past but it is preventing us from safely moving forward. What a disgrace that Maryland had to secretly get 500k tests from South Korea. They had their first case the same day we did.

I have never mentioned any News network in all my posts. But today
on CNN they stated we must prepare ourselves for a second wave and
combined with normal flu will be worse this fall and winter. Many people's
hopes have now been shattered hearing this. They all must shut up about
depressing news that may never happen. Do my post sound like I'm loosing
it now ?? For someone who was not going to post today I have said enough.
