We wrecked our MME in November. Just got it back from body shop in January. We’ve been out of the country most of the time since and I’m just now getting around to addressing this issue.

In the accident the right rear wheel and tire were ruined. The tire and wheel were replaced with original equipment. Now I have 3 tires with 40K miles and one new one.

What should I do?
1. Buy 3 new Michelins like the original equipment.
2. Buy 4 new tires of some other manufacturer and try to sell the one new original equipment Michelin. (Anyone interested)
3. Screw it, just run the tires until each one is worn out.

Thanks.

I've read and tire dealers encourage this, in AWD vehicles replace two tires on an axle. Personally with the situation you describe to minimize hassle replace all four with a good aftermarket tire and you shouldn't have to worry about tires for some time.

I ruined one tire and ended up replacing the pair. 28K miles. I’ve had no issues and the car drives fine.
If I had 40K, I’d consider replacing all. How much tread do you have left on the originals? They have to be getting close to needing replacement anyway.

That's easy, just buy 3 more new tires like the replacement and make them all match. I mean seriously, if you are getting over 40,000 miles on the oe tires I would stick with them, they are definitely giving you good service life.

I would go with number 2. Mainly because I don’t like the bounciness going over bumps, and have read some tires can improve on that. My tires only have 10k on them so not ready to find out for myself yet.
